Forty-five projects on BuildZoom, a score of 115 that puts the company above 98% of Massachusetts contractors, and roofing permits still being pulled in December 2025 — Michael Burke Construction is a working Duxbury roofer.
That matters because its Better Business Bureau page says otherwise. BBB carries an alert reading "Out-of-Business known or suspected" and gives the company no grade at all on that basis. The state disagrees: its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, number 190793, is active in the registry, and BuildZoom shows the same number issued 27 February 2026 alongside permits filed through 25 December 2025. Treat the BBB alert as stale rather than as news about the business.
The day job is asphalt shingles. Permit after permit reads the same way — strip out and install 16, 22, 29, 47 squares of CertainTeed Landmark or Owens Corning architectural shingles — on houses in Hingham, Norwell, Hanover, Milton, Brockton, Taunton, Marshfield, Plymouth, Bourne, Yarmouth Port and East Falmouth, mostly between $6,000 and $25,000. Its own site pushes the flat-roof side: white EPDM membrane systems for low-slope and commercial roofs across Duxbury, Plymouth and Middleborough. Skylights show up in the permits too, a Velux fixed unit going in alongside a Hingham reroof in 2021.
There is a second, bigger register of work in the permit history: a $249,070 boathouse and pool-house interior fit-out in Plymouth in 2018, a $45,245 second-floor bathroom build in Marshfield, a $34,245 Plymouth basement renovation with egress window, a $24,617 siding replacement, a garage-and-breezeway addition in East Falmouth. On Angi the company describes itself as a custom-home and major-renovation builder of 41 years — that ambition is real in the record, but the volume is roofs.
The written customer record is dated and it is short. Three accounts on a business directory in late 2018 and spring 2019 all describe roofs and all say the same things: a March 2019 customer wrote that "the team was very professional, the cleanup excellent, and the new roof looks fantastic", a November 2018 customer said the crew "worked non stop, cleaned up everything", and a May 2019 one called the price and the on-time finish a "rare find". The single Angi review, from April 2011, says only "He is very good."
A good call for a shingle or flat-roof replacement on the South Shore. Ask for a job from the last year or two you can go look at, confirm the registration number yourself with Consumer Affairs, and get the shingle brand and square count written into the quote the way the permits do it.
