Three people have written about Michael W Gomes on BuildZoom, and all three wrote to warn other homeowners off. Together they average 1.0 out of 5. The business itself is neither new nor tiny. BBB lists it as a sole proprietorship started in May 2006, three employees, operating under the alternate name Serenity Siding, and gives it an A+ with no complaints or government actions on its file. BuildZoom's permit history backs the volume: 99 permitted projects, clustered in Taunton and nearby southeastern Massachusetts towns, mostly roofing. The complaints are specific, and they are about the building itself. A homeowner writing in January 2022 said Gomes built their house between October 2016 and March 2017 and that years later it still wasn't finished — a cracked foundation with water coming through, windows that don't open, a patio that cracked and lifted inside a year — and that repeated calls and messages went unanswered. A 2015 customer, who brought him in behind a builder, described stairs not secured to the wall and a door header that the building inspector found had never been opened up where Gomes said it had. In 2013 another customer hired him to run a whole-house renovation and described an underbid job, an unlicensed plumber, permits promised but never produced, and eventually no contact at all. Weigh the dates honestly. The newest of those accounts is four years old, and the written history runs 2013 to 2022 — dated, but detailed and consistent in what it describes. BuildZoom also lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration for him, though that is the directory's own listing rather than a registry check, and it scores him 67, which it places in the first percentile. If you're weighing him for anything structural, ask for addresses from the recent permitted jobs and talk to those owners yourself, and pin down the punch list, completion date and payment schedule in writing before any money moves.
Mike Gomes, built our house from Oct 2016 finished march 2017. Things are not finished and we are in 2022 and we have messaged and called him numerous amounts of time. I have a crack in my foundation and water leaking through. I have windows that do not open, mind you this is a brand new house. My patio cracked and raised not even a year later!! I am disgusted with how he can day he has great quality of work!! I will never recommend him and I am trying to see where to file a complaint against his business because he should not be licensed for this
Stand Clear of this Contractor As noted above stand clear of this contractor and the builder he works with. He finished a build on a house we purchased in 2013 and the workmanship is terrible. He has been brought back to fix several items including not securing the stairs to the wall causing them to pull apart and crack the wall and he lied to me about a door header being properly blocked when his guy had cut a hole in the wrong place. When the building inspector came I asked him if what he told me was true and he said no they did not even cut open the correct spot to be able to see the door header so he could not understand how he could tell me it was properly blocked. Stand clear of this contractor.
I've read bad contractor reviews and assumed people were just complaining. Turns out there are some awful contractors out there. Mr. Gomes is among them. We hired him as a GC to oversee some work in a home we recently purchased (roof, plumbing, electrical, and some painting and plaster repair). We didn't realize until far too late that he underbid the entire job by many many thousands of dollars. He hired an unlicensed plumber (who he then didn't fullly pay!), refused to give us permits (despite swearing he had them), took and refused to return our house keys, painted over chipped porch paint w/ primer (no actual paint), insisted that people were coming to redo our floors (they never showed). Then, you guessed it, he became unreachable. Of course he stuck around to accept the first payment, which was issued before we were wise enough to realize we'd been completely duped. He's a disaster. Stay far far away.
