Three design-build firms got a look before one couple picked this one. What won them over, they wrote in a May 2026 review, was the organization and communication at the start — and senior team members on their site most days once the build was under way.
Mitchell Construction Group works from Main Street in Medfield as a residential design-build firm with in-house architects, interior designers and carpenters, taking on whole-home renovations, additions, kitchens, bathrooms and basements, plus a separate exteriors and maintenance division for decks, siding, windows, roofing and masonry. Its site credits founder Tom Mitchell with 40 years in residential construction; his son Tommy Mitchell is now owner and president. The company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #205687, is active on the state registry, and its Better Business Bureau grade is A+.
Reviews run from 2015 to 2026 — 49 of them across two platforms, a 4.6-star average from 41 Google ratings and 5.0 from 31 on Houzz. What comes through most is how often people come back. A 2023 reviewer counted five projects, starting with a garage and a mudroom addition and repairs after ice damage at one house; another described a 2012 renovation and addition, then a 2019 kitchen and dining room renovation. A 2025 reviewer whose major renovation was about 20 years earlier said the company's electrician talked him through a dead circuit over the phone.
Schedules and estimates hold. A 2025 attic renovation with a new bathroom finished on time and on budget; an office built into a spare bedroom that same year came in ahead of schedule; a 2025 exterior trim repair was done as expected. The design half draws its own praise: a 2025 reviewer, writing about a kitchen and two bathrooms renovated more than a decade before, said the design still doesn't look dated. On the exterior side, a July 2026 customer had solar panels pulled and re-installed, a new roof, siding replaced with PVC trim and shingles, and metal skirting fitted.
They are not the cheap option, and two reviewers say so outright. A 2023 two-star review put it bluntly: unless you have deep pockets, they aren't for you — the writer had a long list of wants that wouldn't fit the budget. A December 2024 reviewer agreed they don't come cheap, and thought the price bought something. Separately, a 2022 one-star review has nothing to do with construction: a parent wrote that a man driving a company truck harassed her daughter and drove recklessly on the highway.
For an addition or a whole-house renovation where the drawings and the crew come from the same office, this is a firm people hire and then hire again; smaller work has a route in too, since a 2023 reviewer was handed off to a "small jobs" group for minor exterior repairs. Put your budget on the table at the first meeting, and ask which senior person will be on your site day to day.

Mitchell Construction did a superb job on the exterior of our home. They managed: solar panel removal and re-installation, installation of a completely new roof, removal and repair of siding with PVC trim and shingles, installation of stunning metal skirting, and repair and repainting of the entire exterior of our house! They had exceptionally capable teams of roofers, siders and painters. The cleanup each day was exceptional! Professional, timely and well-managed every step of the 10 week process, with rain delays.

We would highly recommend the Mitchell Construction Group to anyone considering a home construction project. Overall, the quality of craftsman was outstanding. Construction materials (exterior and interior) were of the highest quality. Individual crew members were highly experienced, worked efficiently, were courteous and maintained a neat job site throughout the project. The Production Manager was always accessible and responsive throughout the entire project. During the proposal process, we were assured by the Division Director and the Production Manager that the project would be tightly managed, and brought in on time and on budget — and it to was. We would definitely use Mitchell Construction Group again if the need arises.
We spoke at length with three design/build firms before we started our project. Mitchell Construction impressed us with their organization and communications at the start. Throughout the consults and build their senior team members were here most days, were quick to respond to questions, and ensured we were happy at each stage of the build.

We just completed a major exterior renovation of our Victorian including a fully restored porch, new siding and roofing, masonry repair and more. We could not be happier with the result. Joe was our business contact and worked with us patiently to size and estimate the project and help us prioritize to fit our budget. Our project manager Dan kept things on track throughout the execution, providing excellent communication, attention to detail and responsiveness to change requests as the work unfolded. The lead carpenter and various subcontractors have all been excellent as well, and our circa-1900 home is ready for the next 100+ years. I would not hesitate to recommend Mitchell Construction and we will certainly use them again!
We had a phenomenal experience working with Mitchell Construction group! They helped us with an addition that involved remodeling our kitchen and half-bath and adding a primary bed/bath. It was really important to us to keep the old feel of our 100 yr old home while adding space, windows, and comfort. Gwen, our designer worked MAGIC to make all our dreams come true. Her ability to listen to exactly what we wanted and then turn it into something beautiful and functional was really amazing. She read our personality and style and worked so hard to make every detail perfect. The construction team was also incredible. Their attention to detail, and ability to customize every corner of the job to make it fit and look just right was so impressive. They were organized, efficient, and stayed on schedule! The icing on the cake was that they were so careful and considerate of my garden. They worked around all my plants and made as small a footprint as possible. My home is now perfect and will never need a renovation again... but if I ever change my mind, I'd call Mitchell right away!
