A buyer whose home inspector had flagged the attic joists called three contractors in May 2019 and needed someone fast. Matt Palmer was the only one who rang back the same day and came out. A customer with a small roof repair in December 2018 described the same thing after several other companies told him they were too busy. Getting a call back is what people wrote about for six years. MMP Construction is a Lowell general contractor run by Matthew and Margaret Palmer, and its permit history is roofing and structure: three strip-and-reroof jobs in 2024, deck and porch builds with roofing over multi-family units, window and garage-door infill framing, and in 2025 a $172,500 attached garage with a mudroom and an accessory dwelling unit above it that turned a single-family house into a two-family. Ninety-seven permitted projects sit on the record, eleven of them in the last three years, at a typical value near $15,000. The written accounts are older, running from November 2016 to November 2022 on HomeAdvisor. They describe a bathroom skylight fitted before the light went in 2022; a complete roof replacement in 2019 with kitchen venting and new attic ventilation; a bedroom added in 2017 where the crew laid out what was possible inside the budget and, the customer said, never tried to upsell; entryway stairs and porches rebuilt in 2018. The one worth keeping in mind is from January 2017: shingles blew off five months after the job, and the crew came out the next day and reattached them at no extra charge. The criticism in that same set is specific and mild. A customer in November 2016 said the crew turned up without a ladder long enough to reach the roof. Another that month said they were given little information and the problem was not fixed, so they brought in someone else. In June 2017 a customer had to call them back for an area that had been missed, which was sorted quickly, and thought their quote to demolish a barn was far too high. Two things to settle before signing. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration for the company, number 176840, issued in October 2025 — ask to see the registration yourself. And the company's Houzz page calls the business MMP Construction Inc in one field and MMP Construction LLC in its own description, so check which entity the contract names. For a roof, a porch, or an addition in the Lowell area, this is a builder with a deep permit history and a record of coming back when something needed fixing.
We needed a skylight installed in our bathroom, and MMP did an excellent job--we are very happy with it! The team was friendly and worked quickly and efficiently to get it done before it got dark, and the quality of their work was excellent. Matt was very friendly and nice to communicate with as well, and always responded right away. I highly recommend MMP Construction to anyone looking for great quality work and excellent customer service.
Did a great job. Excellent communication, did the job quickly, on schedule and at a very good price. Cleaned up well, were courteous and professional. Highly recommend.
This is the second time we have used MMP Construction for a large-scale renovation and both times, we were thrilled with the results and with the service level. Matt (the owner) is friendly, fair, and quick to communicate. I would (and do!) recommend MMP for any renovation you plan to undertake.
Matt, the owner of MMP, was knowledgeable, helpful, responsive and had a high level of communication. The work was of excellent quality and we are very happy with the end results. We would recommend them highly.
When we started our plan of remodeling, the first thing we did was the complete roof replacement including kitchen vent & duct pipe installation to the roof, and new installation of attic ventilation. MMP did not only completed it just as agreed but also very efficiently. The crews were friendly, professional, and careful. The jobs were carefully managed and implemented effectively. I was impressed by Matt, who is the manager, and he does an outstanding job in managing the crews and the progress of the situation, and the communication was clear and always to the point. We then moved to initiate a search for a contractor of two bathrooms remodeling after completing the roof and attic vent, MMP was one of the many candidates. Matt has had not only the best idea and proposals but also shown an impressive & professional sense of evaluating the project accurately, including the possible structural modification as well as a competitive estimate of the cost of the build. His proposal included a rebuild of a wall of the bathroom to expand another one adjacent to it. Matt accepted to use my schematic design image (made with a software tool) and a spreadsheet list of the fixtures that I created - as many as fifty items including TOTO, Grohe, American Standard, Panasonic, and IKEA - to start the job (later changed some of them due to local plumbing code compliance) After beginning the bathroom remodel project, Matt shared what jobs will be done with us timely and efficiently via text so that we feel comfortable enough in knowing what is going on while living in the house of dust & noise from remodeling. The crews, Zen and Mark, were very courteous, extensively experienced, reliable, and friendly with excellent communication, sometimes with songs of 80s rock music. They ask me when more precise specifications are needed and notified me when they feel advance notifications are required. When a change is necessary due to inspection, they informed me and clarified what and why. I have never felt uncomfortable in living together with the remodel job which has lasted over four months. The completed two bathrooms were stunning, just as I imagined. Matt, Zen, and Mark have proved their strong & thoughtful expertise and lived up with my request patiently until completion. Great job. A home remodeling project cannot be successful without having a trusted partner, and my experience with MMP has led me to be glad to share my confidence that MMP has a credential to become your reliable partner to manage a construction project together.
