Modern Heritage is a Topsfield-based custom home building and design-build firm — construction management, in-house drafting and design-assist, and its own millwork shop for custom cabinetry and built-ins. The company says it was founded in 2015 by Andrew Brewin, Ian Mentasti and Steve Slade, and that it was voted "Best Millwork" by Boston Home in 2022. Their permitted project history is where the story lives: a $243,500 primary-bedroom balcony addition with a bathroom renovation and window/siding work, and a $118,000 cantilevered bump-out with a second-floor en-suite, both in 2024 at 8 Corn Point Rd in Marblehead; a $125,000, 1,350-square-foot addition in Rowley; a $120,000 guest-suite conversion in West Harwich credited on the permit to "S. Slade," matching the company's own Director of Construction; and a $100,000 kitchen-and-bath gut with structural steel work in Brookline. They've also permitted a Manchester bathroom remodel, a Carlisle roof-and-deck job, a Rowley deck, and a commercial roof replacement on their own Topsfield building. One thing worth knowing: a June 2026 review describes a company vehicle cutting a driver off on I-90 hard enough to trigger the other car's automatic emergency braking — a complaint about road conduct, not the construction work itself. Its Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license (#184227) is active, verified directly against the state registry. Separately, BuildZoom's own listing attributes that license to an owner named "Matt Wolfe" — a name that doesn't appear anywhere on the company's own site, which names only Brewin, Mentasti and Slade as its founders. For a substantial addition, remodel, or custom-millwork project on the North Shore, they have a real record of six-figure jobs to point to — worth asking about that ownership discrepancy and the driving complaint before signing on.
