A family living in a 200-year-old house wrote in February 2015 that when their family-room remodel turned out harder than anyone had guessed, Nik Monahan walked them over to the problem, showed it to them, and laid out the most sensible way to fix it. Every written account of Monahan Contracting sounds like that: the owner on site, explaining the choice before it gets made. Nik Monahan has run the Milton company since 2003. Houzz lists it as a general contractor established that year, working on home remodels, additions, basement remodeling and accessory dwelling units, and shows Remodelers Advantage and National Kitchen & Bath Association membership on the profile. All five of its Houzz ratings are five stars, and seven projects are posted there. The customer accounts run 2014 to 2016, and they describe real project-scale work. In December 2014 a homeowner wrote about a modest in-law addition that became a full one-bedroom apartment with living room, kitchen, bedroom and bath, which meant putting a full basement foundation into a very tight footprint with limited access and improving the septic system along the way. In October 2014 a couple who were referred by their realtor hired him to upgrade a 1920s kitchen and add a half bath beside it, and said the project started on time and moved along without major surprises. Another customer writing that same month was on their second job with him: a kitchen and two baths before a condo resale, then two years later living space carved out of an unfinished basement. In June 2016 a collaborator on a large renovation and addition credited Nik's attention to detail and his willingness to go further than the contract asked. Two things to settle before you hire. The detailed write-ups date from 2014 to 2016, so ask Nik for two recent projects and the owners' phone numbers. And the work people describe is renovation-and-addition scale rather than small repairs, so come with a real scope if you want a useful number. For a whole-room renovation, an addition or an in-law apartment around Milton, particularly in an older house where the surprises are structural, Monahan Contracting is a reasonable call. We have been fortunate enough to collaborate with Nik and his team at Monahan Contracting on a large scale renovation/addition. Nik's attention to detail, ethical business standards and willingness to go the extra mile for his clients and for us has proven to be a welcome asset to our architectural firm. Monahan Contracting strives to do the very best they can and treats their job sites as if it's their own home. You can't ask for anything more than that! We highly recommend Monahan Contracting for your next project ~ you won't be disappointed!
Nik was professional and friendly, always explaining things about our family room remodel so we could make good choices. When the job proved more difficult than imagined because of our 200 year old house, Nik showed us the issue, laid out the most effective and reasonable course of action, and adjusted his estimate fairly. The work was just what we wanted, and the experience was as easy as it could be. Thanks Nik!
Modest in-law addition that resulted in creation of a 1BR apartment (living room, kitchen, BR, bathroom). Necessary work including coordinating foundation work (adding full basement foundation) within a very tight footprint with limited access as well as improvements to our septic system. Communication and problem solving abilities were excellent. Contractor showed an eagerness and willingness to be sure we were happy throughout entire duration of project. I would recommend to close friends and family. In fact, he would be my contractor of choice for any additional work done to our house in the future.
Monahan Contracting was referred to us by our Realtor. She saw a sample of Nik's work and liked it. We hired him to upgrade an old 1920's kitchen and add a half bath next to it. The project started on time and progressed smoothly. There were no major unforeseen problems. We were happy to find oak hardwood under the old flooring and refinished it to match the rest of the house. All of the subcontractors were very professional and did a good job. We are very happy with the results and would hire Monahan Contracting for future projects.
This is the second time we have engaged Nik Monohan's services for renovations. The first was for the updating of a kitchen and 2 baths for a condo resale. Based on the great results we hired Nik two years later to create living space in our unfinished basement. He and his crew had to do extensive framing to ready the area and seemed very knowledgeable of the best ways to work around existing pipes and duct work. We are thrilled with the results and the attention given to the finishing details such as moldings and lally column enclosures. Nik was always available to meet with us whenever we had questions and worked with us to keep the project within our budget. We highly recommend Nik and praise his ethical work standards.
