Mr. Handyman of Greater Newton runs on names, not just a truck — Lee, Kevin, Charles, Martin and Tom show up again and again in the write-ups, each with a following of repeat customers. Across 307 Google ratings the average sits at 4.8, and the jobs described range from a five-minute doorknob fix to a full garage rebuild. The recurring theme is technicians who look past the original ask. One customer called in a rodent problem two professional exterminators had missed over four visits; Kevin found the entry point under a radiator that they'd overlooked. Another had a technician come for a minor kitchen-hinge fix, spot mold in the freezer while he was there, and clean it before moving on. In a 2022 review, Tom rebuilt a decrepit stucco-sided garage with new clapboard siding and windows, and the same customer came back for a kitchen window job on the strength of that work. Scheduling comes up often as a strength: several reviewers describe next-day or same-day appointments, live phone contact, and clear text and email updates. Multiple households describe using the company for years across different projects — shelving, siding, drywall, window AC installs, floor leveling — which points to consistency holding up past the first job. Pricing is the one recurring friction point. Several reviewers, including a 2026 write-up praising Kevin's actual work, call the cost high for the scope of the job — one described it as "very over priced" despite being happy with the technician. Execution isn't flawless either: in a 2024 review, a customer said a technician showed up without the tall ladder needed for 13-foot ceilings, couldn't finish the job, and was still charged for the full hour with no follow-up on a refund. Angi rates the company 4.4★ from 169 ratings, roughly matching the Google picture. For anyone in the Newton area weighing a call, this is a shop with real depth on both simple and complicated jobs and a track record of the same few technicians showing up reliably — just ask what a job is likely to run before booking, since that's where the occasional complaint comes from.
Lee was excellent! He was able to fix our deck and make it safe again! He fixed multiple things around our house and did general mounting as well as furniture assembly! He was very professional! I would definitely hire him again!
Kevin came and put up a screen to keep birds out of our exhaust vent. We live on the second floor so it wasn’t the easiest job but he was quick, efficient, and it looks great.
Lee and Charles came over today to fix a number of things in our home before our baby comes in 3 weeks. They were friendly and eager to help out in any way, even when I added on tasks the day of to an already long list of tasks. They sawed down 8 doors to fit our new carpet, hung black out blinds, regrouted bathroom tiles, hung artwork, resealed a glass bathroom door, hung a cuckoo clock…among some other things. I was very impressed with their work and their interpersonal style. We will be happy to have them do any other work in the future. Many thanks!
Lee was amazing! I am ok handy but couldn't get screens installed. He sorted out a dozen screens and got them in amazingly quick. Also figured out what was wrong with an outlet... a GFI circuit popped! Measured all my missing screens which I will need to replace later but was in and out in an hour.
Charles was very helpful! Thank you for all you do!
