Every review of Newbury Kitchens & Baths names the same person. Ric — Riccardo — is the design side of this Boston shop, and what customers describe is a process rather than a product: 3D model walkthroughs before anything is ordered, then blueprint drawings, then cabinets built at a factory in Italy. Writing on Houzz in January 2018, one homeowner said that whenever they were indecisive about a feature, Ric would generate a 3D representation of it, even a walkthrough, to help them decide. The written history runs from 2015 to 2018 and reads consistently: 4.9 from seven ratings on Houzz, 5.0 from three on Angi, with a single 4-star in the set. A 2015 reviewer who wandered into the Newbury Street showroom said the remodel was managed on budget and the subcontractors were good ones; another 2015 customer was on their second kitchen with the company; an office client in 2017 wrote that the cabinets arrived assembled and crated with the finish intact, at a third of what they expected to pay. In a September 2017 review a client described a flooring job that ran into unplanned plumbing work, and credited Riccardo with finding a way through the building's logistics. Two things to settle before calling. Nothing has been written publicly in about eight years, so ask what the company has finished lately and who does the installing now. And the licensing picture needs a direct answer: BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration for the company, #172073, as inactive with an expiration date of May 2014, while the company's own Houzz page lists HIC-184363 and construction supervisor licence CS-106531. Ask which registration is current, whose name it is in, and check the number yourself. BuildZoom also names Marc Pearlman as the owner, which is not the Riccardo the reviews describe. For a designer-led kitchen with European cabinetry and a lot of visualization up front — jobs the Houzz profile puts between $10,000 and $250,000 — the older reviews describe exactly that experience, repeatedly. Confirm the current registration, ask to walk a kitchen finished in the past year or two, and get the full scope in writing before you sign.
Ric was very good at providing a clear picture of how our kitchen would look in the end. He took the ideas we had and showed us exactly how it would like via 3D model walk throughs. Then to blueprint drawings and to the factory floor in Italy where our cabinets were made. He dealt with everything in between. He showed great flexibility and was a good collaborator. The 3d modeling tools he used were very good and helped us make our kitchen just the way we wanted it. If sometimes we were indecisive about some feature or look, Ric could just generate a 3D representation of it and even a walk through that would help us decide. The quality of the products that he steers you to helps cut the clutter of all the options out there. We often comment how much we love our kitchen and how it turned out just the way we wanted it to, and our guests always rave about how beautiful it is.
Riccardo was so incredibly helpful! I called him by chance looking for a SMEG fridge for my bosses daughter starting college. He immediately got on finding the fridge for us, handled the shipping and even supervised the delivery to make sure everything was okay with the fridge. Would absolutely recommend purchasing through him, and would definitely use him for future needs!
Our flooring project turned out beautifully, refined and with impeccable attention to our customer needs and difficult schedules. While on site we also ran into additional and necessary plumbing work and Riccardo was beyond accomodating and ressourceful in fiding the most efficient solution, teamwise, logisticswise and budgetwise to get the job done in a relatively uneasy schedule on our end and difficult building logistics to have to deal with. Riccardo and his team worked seamlessly and with the most human attention homeowners would want to look for when dealing with remodeling and any house project.
Riccardo is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the design process. He takes the time needed to explain the reasons behind the placement choices, the best use of materials, and the most cost effective design. Functionality and tastefulness are seamlessly combined in each of his designs.
We used NKB for our office kitchen and it came out BEAUTIFUL! Awesome cabinets and for 1/3 of what I expected to pay. Plus they came in completely assembled, crated (NO DAMAGE!), and the finish was gorgeous. We've got one sweet break room now!
