Next Step Removal & Installs LLC runs out of Cambridge and gets hired mainly for heating and cooling work — boilers, furnaces, heat pumps and air conditioning — with plumbing sitting right beside it. BuildZoom's listing names Kevin Pires as the owner, and homeowners writing since 2022 almost always name Kevin as the person who turns up, with Amanda handling scheduling and confirmations. Its Procore profile lists the company's own service menu as HVAC, HVAC air-distribution cleaning, plumbing and demolition. The reviews are unusually specific about the jobs. In November 2025 a homeowner described an old, rotting cast-iron pipe replaced with new PVC; the same week another had a boiler replaced while they were out of state, coordinated through a housemate and finished without disrupting the neighbouring condo. A 2024 customer had a heat pump, water heater and air handler installed in a small condo building. Speed comes up again and again: an air-conditioning repair completed within twenty hours of the first call in 2024, a same-day capacitor fix charged at $125 in 2025, an emergency shutoff valve on a water main replaced in 2026 with a second valve added at the meter so the city could swap it later. Several reviewers say they were steered to the cheaper repair — a furnace fixed rather than replaced, a problem diagnosed as not really a problem. The complaints deserve equal weight, and they cluster after the job rather than during it. A 2024 reviewer wrote that maintenance technicians called in later described an installation done a couple of years earlier as poorly done, with some unwilling to service it. A 2023 reviewer said their issues came back within a month. Another 2023 review gave three stars, calling the work exceptional but describing a confrontational doorstep visit over an invoice that had already been paid, and a 2022 reviewer said after-work service was non-existent and communication needed to improve. Two of the six comments in the past six months are negative: a one-star "So expensive!" on Thumbtack and a single-line "Look else where" on Google. Google's average sits at 4.5 from 35 ratings while Thumbtack's is 3.7 from three. On credentials, BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration, #197610, as active and issued 8 January 2026, filed to a Cambridge PO box — that is the directory's own record, so ask to see the registration itself. Procore's profile also lists African American Business, Minority Business Enterprise and Small Business classifications, again as directory listings rather than certificates. A sensible call for a Cambridge-area homeowner who wants one experienced tradesperson on an urgent heating, cooling or plumbing failure. Before booking bigger work, get the registration number, the scope and the callback and warranty terms in writing.

“We have had a great experience with Next Step, they re-installed our HVAC system and fixed our duct work after squirrels found their way in! They have always been timely and professional. Thank you!”
I highly recommend Kevin and Next Step Removal & Installs. I hired Kevin to replace the emergency shutoff valve on my water main . Not only did he do this, but he noticed my water meter will shortly need to be replaced by the city and he installed a second shutoff on the other side of the meter so both can be turned off and the meter can be replaced without needing to shut the water off at the street. He also suggested I install a valve to bleed the water line at the main if I ever need to do plumbing work elsewhere in the house and did that as well. He did all this extra work for only the cost of materials and on top of all of that he walked me through how I can replace the valve stem for my shower myself, replace the shower paneling and move an AC duct. I really couldn't get over it. Kevin really is in a league of his own regarding his integrity. I will come to him first going forward and recommend others do the same.
They responded really quickly and rectified my problem, which was not really a problem. I appreciated the responsiveness and honesty. Great business I would use them again in the future

Dependable, knowledgeable and reliable! Kevin saved me with a simple solution after some trouble shooting. The alternative would have cost me thousands. Great business!
