Verified record
Northeast Chimney Sweeps is a Woburn, family-run chimney company — Joe, his son Ben, and Lydia all show up by name across the reviews — that's built an unusually deep, consistent record: 79 reviews on file since 2021, a 4.9★ Google average from 95 ratings, and customers who describe using them for 7, 11, even 25 years running. What comes up again and again isn't just that the work gets done, but how it's explained. Reviewers across 2022 through 2026 describe photo-documented inspections — before-and-after shots of a crumbling flue liner, a failed cap that had let squirrels nest inside, a two-liner system connecting a boiler and hot water heater — and a pattern of Joe and his crew telling people what doesn't need doing yet rather than pushing every service on the list. One 2026 review described the crew treating a chimney liner job as urgent after a gas water heater started leaking carbon monoxide back into the house with a baby in it; a 2022 review recounts them quietly fixing a chimney another company had capped wrong, no criticism of the competitor, just before-and-after photos of the corrected work. The negatives are real but narrow, and they cluster around scheduling and billing rather than the work itself. A 2023 one-star review said it took over 90 days and six follow-up calls just to get a quote, with the job never actually done. A 2022 review complained about a slow-to-arrive bill and an accusatory tone when the company followed up on late payment. And an older 2022 review simply said an inquiry went unanswered. A 2025 Reddit thread captures the same split in miniature — one commenter called their communication "a bit lacking," while two others chiming in on the same post said theirs was fine. None of that shows up in the last six months, where the four most recent reviews are all five stars, including the carbon-monoxide callout above. If you're weighing them for anything beyond a routine cleaning — a liner, a cap repair, a full inspection — the record says to expect careful, photographed work at a fair price; the one thing worth confirming up front is a firm timeline, especially if your project isn't urgent.
“Third Northeast. I've had work done by them and it was excellent. Don't remember poor communication, but it's been a couple years.”
“Second northeast, but I’ve always had easy communication.”
“Northeast chimneysweeps does pretty good work. The communication is a bit lacking though”
I can’t say enough about Northeast Chimney Sweeps. During a routine gas meter change, national grid identified persistent slippage coming from my gas water heater (carbon monoxide coming back into the house) and had to shut off the water heater for safety purposes, especially with my wife and our 8 month old daughter living in the house. We identified that we needed a chimney liner to help gas flow out through the chimney. I called several chimney companies but all were at least 2 weeks before they could start. When I spoke with Joe, he was also booked out for weeks but sensed I was in a tough spot without any hot water for my family. He was able to move around his busy schedule to fit me in within a couple of days. Not only that, him and his son Ben went above and beyond to ensure we had a safely operating water heater in addition to installing the chimney liner. The Northeast Chimney Sweeps team are great people and I would recommend them to anyone!
Finally, a reputable chimney company. After encountering one questionable recommendation after another, we highly recommend Northeast Chimney Sweep. They were professional, clean, courteous, realistic about the services actually needed, and never tried to oversell the work. Because of our previous experiences with chimney and fireplace companies, we obtained three separate opinions. One company recommended an $1,800 chemical treatment and whip cleaning, while another claimed nothing could be done without installing a new liner. Northeast Chimney Sweep provided a straightforward, honest assessment without scare tactics or unnecessary upgrades. We first used them for our own home and will now be using them exclusively for the client properties we manage. Do not hesitate to work with them.
Installed a liner system and replace chimney cap and smoke pipe. Well done and very professional. Appreciate the pictures of our flue prior with crumbling sections.
Northeast Chimney has cleaned my chimney for 25 years. They are prompt, thorough, cheerful and a pleasure to deal with.
Lydia was amazing, just another amazing experience from Northeast Chimney sweeps over the years!
