A homeowner who had a kitchen and a mudroom addition finished in February 2026 put the useful thing plainly: on a big job some things will not turn out as planned, and the test is how the builder handles it — in his case the owner kept taking extra steps to make it right. That is the tenor of the 22 reviews behind Northwoods Builders' 4.8 Google average. Clint Keeney and John Selinger founded the Acton firm more than a decade ago, after each had run his own contracting business; they put their combined experience at 55 years and now also run Northwoods Kitchens, a kitchen and bath showroom at the same 128 Great Rd address. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, 173183, is active in the state registry. The work described is heavy. A February 2025 client had the second and third floors gutted, dormers and a bathroom added, electrical upgraded and HVAC picked to fit Mass Save goals, and said Cambridge zoning delays moved neither the schedule nor the budget. Another that month brought them in to finish a four-family rehab after firing the previous contractor: they updated the permits, walked through what had already been built and what needed correcting, and dealt with the city. In February 2026, after a burst pipe and a bathroom overflow flooded a kitchen, Clint worked directly with the insurer and salvaged the cabinetry that could be saved. Trade professionals turn up in the reviews as well — an interior designer who has worked with them for about 12 years, an architect who has had several of his designs built by them, and a residential architecture and interiors firm. One account runs the other way. In November 2023 a prospective client posted a one-star review of the estimating stage, describing two weeks with no communication and no quote before a second site visit was raised, and disputing the company's public reply point by point. It concerns the sales process rather than finished work, but it is the only window onto what happens before a contract is signed, so settle the quoting timeline early. The firm sells fixed-price contracts, which is the other thing to test: ask what sits outside the fixed price before you sign. For a substantial renovation, an addition or an ADU around Acton, Lexington, Concord, Arlington, Sudbury or Cambridge, this is a serious candidate.
“I am thrilled with my new kitchen! They brought my vision to life with incredible attention to detail. Highly recommend for any remodeling needs!”
“Clint and the team have been instrumental in helping us bring our dream home to life. Our project was done in 2 phases, and for what it is worth, we asked Northwoods to come back for phase 2 because we trusted them to deliver what we wanted. The crews are artisans, strive for perfection, very trustworthy and respectful. They redid our entire home: kitchen, bathrooms, cabinetry installations, heated flooring in basement, exterior remodel, and more.”
Clint Keeny and his team at Northwoods Builders recently completed a whole house renovation for my family and we couldn’t be happier with the finished results. From start to finish, they took the time to listen to what we wanted and made sure our vision was reflected in every part of the project. Throughout the renovation, Clint kept us informed of the process every step of the way, answered questions, and was always transparent about timelines and costs. We are also very happy with the help we received from the designers who are a part of the Northwoods Builders team. They were instrumental in helping us make decisions on layout, finishes, and overall design. That guidance made a huge difference and brought everything together beautifully. If you’re looking for a reliable, skilled, and trustworthy contractor for any type of renovation, I would absolutely recommend Clint and Northwoods Builders. I look forward to working with them again on future projects.
Northwoods Builders recently completed a kitchen remodel and mudroom addition to our house. The lead carpenter, Jim, and his team did high quality work and clearly take pride in their work. The designers at Northwoods Kitchens were very helpful in picking materials and finishes that make our kitchen feel fresh and functional. In every large renovation project there will be some things that don't quite turn out as planned, but the sign of a good contractor is how they address them. John, the owner and general contractor, was very accommodating and often took extra steps to make things right. We are very happy with the results.
We had back-to-back emergencies — a pipe burst in our sunroom and then a primary bathroom drainage overflow that caused a massive leak into our kitchen. It was incredibly stressful, but Northwoods was outstanding from start to finish. Clint was extremely responsive and worked directly with our insurance company to clearly communicate what the remodel would involve. While our insurance was very difficult to deal with once the job was ready to begin, Northwoods remained timely, efficient, and professional throughout. They also worked with us to salvage what could be saved (our cabinet doors and drawer fronts) and carefully rebuilt what was needed, including new cabinet boxes. The quality of the work across every trade was exceptional — demolition, electrical, plumbing, plastering, hardwood installation and refinishing, and cabinet work were all done with care and skill. This was a complicated and emotional repair process, and Northwoods made it manageable. Their craftsmanship and coordination were top-notch, and we are truly grateful for their work. We would absolutely recommend them to anyone dealing with major repairs or an emergency remodel.

We are done for now, but if we ever had a need for a general contractor we would have Clint / Northwoods, and the crew led by John Rodriguez back with confidence.
Clint and his team did an amazing job renovating our home in Concord, delivering an awesome product while staying within budget and working around our hectic schedule. They were extremely professional and we would definitely use them again.
