Oak Hill Construction describes itself as a Vermont general contractor offering complete new home builds, remodels and additions, and its website says it has been in business nine years. A recent customer describes a new lake house that Andy Husk of Oak Hill Construction built for them. Andy found an architect for the design and collaborated with her throughout the project, attended hearings during the regulatory process, and was regularly on-site. The same customer wrote that the team worked through the winter to finish within the town's restrictions on construction timing, and that Andy even plowed their road. A 2026 customer said Oak Hill took on the structural restoration of an 1824 brick Federal house where water problems had damaged the lower brick and the basement supports, and that Andy called in a structural engineer to design the basement supports. That 2026 customer said the invoice included every bill from every sub or supplier, and that Oak Hill came back to remodel their kitchen. A 2025 customer said Andy and his team handled a project involving drainage issues, concrete work, exterior stairs and a deck. A 2023 customer listed new flooring, kitchen and bathroom renovations, a fireplace renovation and redone decks among the work Oak Hill did for them. A 2020 customer said they hired Andy Husk and his crew in 2018 to build a 3700 square foot post and beam house. A 2020 customer who hired Oak Hill to replace rotted trim and the roof said the crew cleaned up every evening before leaving. A 2017 customer said Andy and his family business completely renovated their parents' home inside and out over four years of weekends, including installing a septic system. Vermont lists its residential contractor registration, 174.0000956, as active, held by Oak Hill Construction, Inc.
We could not be happier with the new lake house Andy Husk of Oak Hill Construction has built for us. Andy found a highly competent, creative, and delightful to work with architect for our design, and collaborated with her throughout the project to make sure the ideas we had were feasible, affordable, and appropriate for our site. He supported us throughout the regulatory process, providing expertise, attending hearings, anticipating questions, and putting in contact with professionals who helped with all the requirements of local and state applications and permitting. We had a firm budget for the project, but having never built a house from scratch, we didn’t know what to expect in terms of costs. Andy was very sensitive to our budget, helping us to make economical choices and necessary trade-offs — while maintaining the level of quality that will give us great satisfaction, pride, and enjoyment. In addition to Andy’s talented crew, he assembled a team of best-in-the-business subcontractors. He was regularly on-site being sure work was progressing as designed and as scheduled. We felt good that while Andy exercised effective management of crew and subcontractors, he clearly cared about the wellbeing of each of them, especially as construction proceeded through one of the coldest recent Vermont winters. Andy was able to call upon established relationships to cost-effectively address customer-initiated changes outside the original scope of work. And he helped us with numerous choices and decisions, connecting us to businesses with helpful staff, attending meetings, and personally coordinating implementation. Co-owner Ashley Husk even delivered a bucket of large rocks to our home to be sure we’d be happy with them. Clear and timely communication, an amazingly responsiveness to any questions or concerns we had, and consistently anticipating next steps and potential obstacles, were all key to avoiding surprises and ensuring everything was done as we wanted it. There are so many instances where Oak Hill Construction rose above our expectations. Andy took great care to make sure site work and construction did not inconvenience or disturb neighbors. The team worked through the winter to complete the project within the bounds of Town restrictions on allowed construction timing. Andy even plowed our road. Every project has a punch list; ours was tackled expediently and 100% to our satisfaction. Now that we’ve moved in, the quality of workmanship and attention to detail amaze us. Not a day goes by without us noticing a delightful new architectural detail or marveling at an element of impeccable craftsmanship. Oak Hill Construction has earned our very highest endorsement and recommendation.
Oak Hill undertook the structural restoration of our 1824 brick Federal where years of water problems had damaged the lower levels of the brick and the basement supports. Standard solutions (like perimeter drains and re-grading, skillfully executed by the excavating subcontractor) were a start, but some problems required more creative thinking. Andy called in a structural engineer to design basement supports that were adequate to a house of this size and found a house-mover who could support a main interior wall while a brick supporting wall underneath it was partially removed and replaced. Our project also involved remodeling a garage addition and the construction of a sunroom. Andy had great ideas to add to these projects. He himself is a skilled carpenter and worked with the crew to sort out tricky problems. He requires a very high standard of workmanship from his crew and was frequently onsite to be sure those standards were being met. They were; the crews did their work with competence and good nature. They were a pleasure to have with us for a year! Andy was easy to work with--a good listener, a straight shooter. He was always receptive to our ideas and concerns. Billing was completely transparent: crew hours were meticulously tracked and reported and our invoice included every bill from every sub or supplier that our project incurred. Living with a construction crew onsite for a year might sound challenging, but in our case our companions were delightful and every day we watched our house become sturdier and more beautiful. We were so pleased that we asked Oak Hill do return to remodel our kitchen, which they did this fall, again with spectacular results. We look around our house and see the hand and ideas of Andy and Tyler and Kohen and Ryan at every turn. Thank you!
Andy and his team did a great job with a complicated project involving fixing of drainage issues, concrete work, exterior stairs and a deck. Very pleased with the results.
I’ve worked with Oak Hill Construction now for over two years and they will be my first call for all future needs. They have a talented and reliable team that does high-quality work. Andy is approachable, knowledgeable, experienced and very easy to work and communicate with. Andy has great relationships with local businesses and has been instrumental in helping us locate and build relationships with electricians, HVAC, landscaping, etc. and everyone I speak to about him, knows and respects him. Oak Hill did a wide variety of things for us: new flooring, kitchen and bathroom renovations, new outdoor shower, fireplace renovation, adding a patio and hot tub, adding structural supports, and redoing decks. I’ve yet to run into something they can’t do or figure out. Andy is meticulous. I would highly recommend Oak Hill Construction without hesitation.
