Old World Construction works out of 10 Kosmas St in Marlborough and says on its own site that it covers Marlborough, Grafton and West Boylston across the MetroWest area of Boston. It presents itself as a family-owned shop whose craftsmanship spans four generations, with a team it says holds more than 125 years of combined industry experience. The Better Business Bureau files the same address and phone under the alternate names OWC and MJM General Contracting, and records a sole proprietorship started on 1 January 1969 with one employee, owned by Murdock J. MacKenzie. Its stated work is broad general contracting: building houses, additions, tenant fit-ups and remodeling, plus roofing, restorations and general repairs. What outsiders can see of the work is mostly the permit record. Building-permit filings show eight permitted jobs between 2005 and 2018 in Marlborough, Northborough, Maynard and Framingham, and they are ordinary residential work: a bathroom remodel with hardwood floor and exterior trim repair, two vinyl-siding replacements, several historical residential deck permits and a rear addition. Customer feedback is thin. In a May 2020 thread in r/WorcesterMA asking for custom home builder recommendations in Central Massachusetts, a commenter wrote that Old World Construction "does amazing work, they are not the least expensive, but they are worth it." Google shows a five-star average from a single rating with no review text. BBB publishes no reviews and no complaints, is not accredited, and is Not Rated because it says it lacks sufficient information. The licence picture needs checking before you hire. The site prints a Massachusetts construction supervisor number 017052 and a home improvement registration 136511; BBB lists the same 017052 but a different home improvement number, 103539, and BuildZoom's licence panel says it was unable to verify and shows no active licence on file. None of these has been confirmed against the state registry here. This is a plausible fit for a MetroWest homeowner wanting a small, long-established general contractor for a remodel, addition, deck or siding job -- but ask for current licence and insurance certificates in writing, ask which home improvement registration number is the live one, and ask for references from recent jobs, because there is very little public feedback to lean on.
