Olde England Painting is a Boston exterior-painting specialist that Paul Adkins started in 1992 after moving from the U.K. and adapting his house-painting background to New England's older housing stock — the company says it's now in its 34th year, working the wood-shingle and wood-shake homes common across Metro Boston. This month, one homeowner described the team transforming their home at a competitive price, with the crew going beyond the original quote to handle some minor construction that came up along the way. In a 2024 review, a customer described an "outstanding" exterior paint job on a house with a dormer boxed in by solar panels — a configuration other painters who came to estimate reportedly turned down. In a 2023 review, a condo trustee described hiring Paul to paint the exterior of a 1920s wood-shake building and repair rotted trim and broken shakes, and credited his experience as evident from the first meeting. Further back, a 2022 review described a bid that came in lower than other well-reputed local painters, alongside prompt and thorough communication throughout. One real gap worth raising directly: the state's contractor registry shows the company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration has expired. The business still shows well elsewhere — an A+ grade from the Better Business Bureau (though not accredited), and on HomeAdvisor and Angi, every one of 51 reviews on each platform is five stars — but a current, active state registration is worth confirming before signing anything. For an exterior repaint on an older Boston-area home — especially one that needs some carpentry alongside the paint — this is a business with decades of specific, detailed praise behind it; just ask directly about the lapsed state registration before booking.
Paul and the Olde England team have completely transformed our home. They did absolutely phenomenal work at, frankly, a really great and competitive price. I'm blown away by how much they went above and beyond my expectations - our quote included what I thought was minor construction work to repair dry rot, etc. prior to painting - but they actually did a TON of work, completely rebuilding our steps (beautifully done), replacing MANY boards around the house, etc. Paul and the whole team were absolutely lovely to deal with, super communicative, friendly, etc. Paul was VERY helpful and patient with us in selecting colors for the house, painting multiple samples on various sides of the house so that we could compare. He essentially offers very experienced color consulting service built into the contract, which saves thousands. VERY HIGHLY recommended!!
Paul and his team were amazing! They were so friendly, did great work and cleaned up so nicely after they were done. We were so happy with the painting they did
We couldn’t have been happier with them! Not only was the paint job outstanding, they were efficient, organized, considerate, and very friendly. There was a challenge with our house: there’s a dormer surrounded by solar panels, and the other painters who came by to give an estimate all said it was too difficult to get to. But Paul said it could be done, and in fact did it himself, along with many other tasks. And the carpenter, Bruno, is a particular asset to the company.
I am a trustee of a 4-unit condominium in Boston. We hired Paul Adkins of Olde England Painting to paint the exterior of our 1920s wood shake building and to make carpentry repairs to some areas of rotted trim and broken shakes. From our first meeting, Paul’s many years of experience were apparent. Paul answered my questions in detail and took time to describe how various aspects of the project would be done. He was very responsive to all follow-up questions that I had and also was very responsive and communicative during the work. Paul and his whole crew were very professional. I was very impressed that all members of the Olde England crew were very detail oriented and made sure the building came out looking fantastic. We are very happy with the work Paul and his crew did for us. Paul’s price quote was very reasonable for the high quality of work they did, and I will happily hire them again for my future painting projects. I highly recommend Olde England Painting.
They did a wonderful job. Always on time and always professional. Highly recommend.
