Seventeen of the eighteen people who have reviewed Overhead Door Company of Danvers on Google gave it five stars, and a surprising number of them name the same technician. Mark M. keeps surfacing: reprogramming a remote instead of selling a new one, sorting an oversized door a homeowner said nobody had managed in 20 years, and — in a May 2025 review — pulling a mouse out of a garage door motor before it could do more damage. Despite the Danvers name, the shop runs out of 2 De Bush Avenue in Middleton, selling, installing and servicing residential and commercial overhead doors, openers, rolling steel doors and gate operators. The company says it has been at it since 1968, founded by the Hardin family, with Bill Carr — who it says brings more than 30 years in the trade — taking over ownership in 2020. Its BBB page tells a tighter story: A+ and accredited since May 2020, three employees, and a business incorporated in October 2014 under the alternate name Overhead Door Specialties, Inc. Both things can be true of a brand that changed hands, but the 1968 date describes the name, not the current corporation. What customers actually describe is a fix-it-first outfit. A 2024 reviewer wrote that the technician traced intermittent door faults to LED bulbs interfering with the signal, changed nothing, and left without charging for the visit. Another, writing in 2023, said the crew repaired a safety eye when they expected to be sold a new motor. Scheduling comes up almost as often as the repairs: one customer described a sales rep pulling a technician out the same day when a parent's opener failed the night before a move. The one sour note is a single one-star review from February 2025, from a customer describing work years earlier that dragged on for roughly a year and a half, and asserting that their original review vanished when an older company profile was taken down. That claim is not something anyone else corroborates, but it is worth knowing that every review on file dates from 2023 or later, which is a short written history for a business trading on a much longer name. Worth confirming before you book: the site prints "Contractor License 197405", but that number appears only in the company's own words here — check it with the state's licence lookup, along with insurance, before work starts. For everyday garage door repair, opener trouble and replacement doors around the North Shore, this is a reasonable call, particularly if you want someone who will try to repair what you have.
It was a pleasure working with Bill and his team, they have great pricing on my doors and hardware, believe me I shopped around and they were the cheapest for the best product. The installation team was clean, courteous, and professional. After the installation, I had a problem called and they come right back, they definitely go the extra step on their service to make sure the customer is satisfied. I highly recommend this company for all your garage needs and are using them on our next projects moving forward.
My mother was moving out of town and on the day before we were scheduled to leave her garage door opener died. The first available appointment was not for several days but when I explained the situation to the sales person she arranged for a tech to come out that day and confirm the problem and schedule the repair before we left. Great customer service and reasonably priced.
