Papa Bear Property Services is a Worcester-area handyman and home-improvement business run by David 'Dave' Davenport, offering everything from small plumbing fixes and appliance installs to carpentry, flooring, painting, lawn care and snow removal — the kind of company built for the odd jobs a bigger contractor won't take on. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is verified active, and Thumbtack separately shows the same credential verified under Davenport's name. The fullest picture comes from Thumbtack, where 79 reviews average 4.9 stars across 133 hires — a much larger sample than anywhere else this business shows up. The reviews that are visible describe real, specific jobs done well: in a 2021 review, a customer described replacing a corroded copper water line and installing a new dishwasher on a tight timeline; another described modifying a kitchen alcove to fit a new fridge, praising Dave's design ideas and project management; a Houzz review from the same period described flooring installed, a new porch built, rooms painted and a TV mounted, all for one customer over time. Google tells a much thinner, harsher story: just three ratings, two of them one-star reviews from June 2025 calling the business unprofessional and, separately, describing an unsafe driver — but neither gives any detail about an actual job. Set against the depth and detail on Thumbtack, Houzz and Porch, that small, vague sample reads as an outlier rather than the fuller picture. For small to mid-size home projects — plumbing fixes, carpentry, flooring, painting, lawn and snow work — around Worcester, the weight of the written record favors Papa Bear; still, the 2025 Google complaints are real and worth a quick gut-check before booking anything larger.
Unbelievable how unprofessional people can be.
Extremely unsafe driver Extremely unprofessional
I contacted David with a tight timeline but he came through and helped me replace an old copper water line and install a new dishwasher successfully. Highly recommended.
Dave is super nice, responded quickly, and showed up when he said he would. He installed my dishwasher, and even did it for less than originally quoted. I'll be calling him for everything around the house now.
Dave did a great job installing our basement Bulkhead. It’s an older house so there were issues! Dave dealt with these and got the job done.
