Peter Donahue has worked as a Massachusetts electrician out of Waltham for decades, taking on residential and commercial outlet, fixture, switch and panel-upgrade jobs. His written record is small and old — four reviews, all from 2013, split evenly between people glad they called him and people who weren't. Two of those reviews describe him as responsive and fair-priced: one from July 2013 says he took his time and checked that everything worked before leaving, and another from September 2013 mentions reaching an agreement on price and timing quickly. The other two describe a rougher experience. A 2013 review says a two-day job on an older home dragged on with the homeowner's husband ending up doing much of the actual work. A separate 2013 account describes Donahue replacing a blown circuit breaker for a pool motor and rewiring part of the panel, after which the breaker kept tripping no matter what was plugged in — a problem the reviewer says was never resolved. What's worth asking about before hiring is his license. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts Master Electrician license, #15556, as active for him, but a separate entry on the same BuildZoom page shows that same number as inactive under a general electrician category, alongside a second, different number (#32678) shown as active — get the current license and number confirmed directly. Public permit records on BuildZoom also show 28 electrical jobs pulled across Massachusetts towns between 2002 and 2014, though nothing more recent is on file. For a small, well-defined job, Donahue has satisfied customers to point to, but the negative accounts here involve real technical follow-through issues — confirm the scope and his current license status before signing on for anything more complex.

Standard receptacle swaps — a new dedicated circuit is a bigger job ($350–$750).
Flush mounts, pendants, chandeliers — hung on existing boxes.

Peter responded promptly to our need for an electrician. We were quickly able to reach an agreement on pricing and date for work to be completed. We will use him again in the future.
He moved slower than molasses and basically my husband did all the work for him. It seemed like he did not care to be an electrician anymore. My husband solved all of our problems since we have an 'old house.' It took him two, nonconsecutive days to complete our project, which was to install a dryer outlet and hook up the vent! Very disappointing!
Did an excellent job for a fair price. I would highly recommend him. He took his time and made sure everything was working properly before leaving
I had a blown Circuit Breaker for my pool motor. Peter replaced the circuit breaker and decided my panel cb wiring was mis-wired even though it had worked fine for 6 years. He rerouted some wires and after that no matter what was plugged into the power the CB would pop. I asked him to put the wires back to their original state but he claimed he could not remember how it was wired. He was totally confused and said he had to think about the problem for a day or so and left my home. I called another electrician the next day who immediately could see Peter had mis-wired the circuit breaker. I never heard back from Peter and don't want to.
