Phan Electric is a Dorchester shop that Tim Phan, a master electrician, says he built from a one-person operation into what it is today after more than a decade in the trade. The company's site describes work from panel upgrades and old-house rewiring to new construction and EV charger installs, serving Dorchester and the rest of Boston. The reviews on file, though, mostly describe smaller calls: a stuck switch, a flickering circuit, a job someone else couldn't get to. In a 2022 review, a homeowner said Than made contact quickly, assessed the project, and gave a competitive price, finishing thoroughly and efficiently. A 2016 review is more specific still — Tim and his brother installed a light motion switch and fixture along with two outlets for a pair of washing machines. And in a 2015 review, a homeowner described a ceiling fan issue that Tim came back to fix within 48 hours of the first call. A recurring theme across the record is price and responsiveness: a 2021 review says Phan quoted a fair price "without trying to upsell," and being reachable when other electricians weren't. That said, it's not universal — a 2016 review called the work good but "a little expensive." Most of this history is dated: 14 of the company's 18 reviews were written before 2021, and the most recent on file is from July 2024. It's a real decade of work, just not a recent one on paper. HomeAdvisor lists the company as an accredited member with a trade license number on file, and Phan Electric's own site cites a separate master electrician license — neither has been independently verified against a state board here, so it's worth confirming directly before hiring. For a routine electrical repair — fixture swaps, troubleshooting, smaller wiring jobs — this is a company with a long, mostly positive history of showing up and pricing fairly. For a bigger job like a panel upgrade or full rewire, the marketing claims that range, but the written reviews don't yet show work at that scale, so it's worth asking for specifics before booking.
Great work very professional
The job was completed promptly and the communication was very thorough.
He was on time, did a great job, and was very pleasant
Than made contact quickly, came & assessed project and gave a good solution & competitive price for my job. Work was done thoroughly & efficiently. I would recommend and use Than again.
Mr Phan showed up when he said he would, which bucks a trend I have experienced with other electricians recently, He quoted me a fair price without trying to upsell me. He handled the job then and there. He was efficiently, and patient as I tested various things (which he had also tested) to make sure everything was working well again. The whole thing was painless, and GREATLY improved our quality of life. he's now my go-to electrician.
