One customer expecting only an estimate for gutter repair had the job done on the spot at what they called a competitive price; another with a chimney leak was quoted and repaired in the same visit, and had missing shingles pointed out that they hadn't spotted themselves. The company works out of 35 Village Rd in Middleton, lists ten employees and 26 years in the trade on Thumbtack, and has posted 210 job photos there. Its Houzz page reaches across Boston and most of the North Shore and covers a lot more than shingles: asphalt, metal, rubber and slate roofs, flashing, skylights, soffits, gutters and gutter covers, attic insulation, ice-dam and roof snow removal, plus interior and exterior painting. Typical jobs are put at $500 to $5,000. Houzz also carries a home improvement contractor registration, HIC # 177404, as the company's own listing entry rather than anything confirmed here. Two things to weigh. Everything customers have written is old — the newest account dates to December 2018, so the 4.5-star Thumbtack average is built on reviews that stopped arriving eight years ago. And that average isn't uniform: 12% of its 17 ratings are one star, with no text attached to explain them, while a 2018 customer who was otherwise satisfied said the price felt high for the height of his roof. For a leak, a failing gutter run or ice-dam work on the North Shore, PKM is a plausible call. Ask for two references from the past year, the HIC registration number and insurance certificate in writing, and an itemized quote before anyone gets on the roof.
