Prather Construction is a family-owned general contractor based in Dedham, Massachusetts, run by Mike and Dan Prather, with a history Houzz lists at more than 50 years in the trade — the kind of longevity that shows up in how often past clients came back. Its written record is a run of seven five-star Houzz reviews, all dated 2016, describing the kind of large, complicated projects the company is built for: a two-story addition with a family room, bedroom, bathroom and deck; a multi-floor renovation converting a three-decker into condominiums with major systems upgrades; and family room additions paired with whole-house renovations. Clients repeatedly mention Mike and Dan being on-site daily, communicative by phone and email, and flexible when scope or budget needed to change mid-project. Several reviewers describe using the company more than once — one over roughly 30 years, another for three separate projects across 20 years — a level of trust that outlasted any single job. The written reviews are dated to 2016 rather than the last few years, so it's worth asking about current crew, timelines and pricing directly rather than assuming today's experience matches a decade-old account. Its Houzz listing also names general contracting, home additions, new construction, kitchen remodeling, and bathroom remodeling as services offered. For a homeowner planning a major addition or a full renovation who wants a contractor who stays engaged day to day, this is a long-running, family-run operation worth a call — just confirm current availability and scope before committing.

Dan and his crew did an excellent job on our remodeling project. It was a large job complicated by the fact that we stayed in the home through out the project. Dan worked very well with us to keep us posted on progress and met with us to advise for the many options we deeded to decide upon (fixtures, lighting, appliances etc.). The level of quality was outstanding. We were 100% satisfied with the end result.
I had a great experience with Prather Construction on a family room addition and multi-floor intensive renovation of the house. They completed the project on time and for a reasonable fee. Mike and Dan were responsive, great to work with, and did a nice job on the exterior and interior. Their subcontractor (framing, painting, wood flooring, in particular) were exceptional.
Mike Prather and his associates were all rpersonable, collegial, competent and did their work with integrity and efficiently. (I may run out of adjectives ) They completed a large renovation - converting a "3-decker" to condominiums, involving major upgrades of all systems and complete gut job renovations of two of the units, on budget and on time. The 2 units we wanted to sell sold quickly, in part because inspectors told prospects e buyers that the work was of good quality. We continue to reside in one of the units, and to enjoy living here.
I can't say enough great things about Prather Construction. Throughout the course of our home renovation, Dan Prather has always been extremely communicative, professional, knowledgeable, and straightforward, and very flexible when we needed to change something and/or cut costs. Prather Construction's work quality and that of his associates and subcontractors is outstanding. Dan always answered our questions and requests immediately, and was always available to talk through pros/cons of various decisions with us. I would recommend Prather Construction to anyone for any project large or small. We are thrilled with our new home!
Prather Construction did a two story addition that consisted of a family room, bedroom, and bathroom, and deck. At least one of the Prathers was on site every day which made communication very easy. They were also very responsive by phone and email. The project had very few surprises, and there was no nickel-and-diming going on. They went above and beyond to make sure the job was done well, and all of the subcontractors held themselves to a very high standard as well. For example, the painters came back to do an extra coat of stain on the deck because it didn't look as good as they hoped. Also, instead of putting ice and water shield up six feet on the roof as the plan called for, they put it all the way to the roof peak to give us extra protection since we tend to get ice dams here. Our architect made a mistake on the plan that would have been a structural problem, and the Prathers caught it and fixed it before too much work had been done on those beams. A less experienced crew might not have had the intuition to know that there was a problem. I happily recommend them to friends and neighbors, and I plan to use them again for future projects.
