A porch roof repair on a rental property ended in small claims court, according to a 2025 customer of Precision Home Care. That customer said they paid $830 upfront for materials to repair two damaged porch roofs. The 2025 customer wrote that the company started a fire to clean up brush in the backyard, then said it would not return to complete the job and refused a refund. The same 2025 customer said the Massachusetts District Court in Pittsfield awarded them double damages, and that they had yet to be paid. In a 2022 review, a customer said home improvement work that was supposed to take 3 weeks was still not done 21 weeks later, with electrical, plumbing, trim work and taping never finished. That 2022 customer said they had to hire a plumber and electrician to finish and filed a complaint with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulations. A 2023 Thumbtack customer said a skim coating job on 4 rooms was still not completed in January and that they could not reach the contractor. A 2018 customer said a shower valve repair left the handle held in place by blocks, and that water left on twice caused a large water stain on the garage ceiling. A 2025 Google reviewer wrote: "Good skills but repeated no show." The work went better for others on Thumbtack, where the company holds 4.7 stars from 70 ratings and is listed as a Top Pro in 2019 and 2017; on Google it has 4.4 stars from 21 ratings. A 2021 customer said Jim gave an in-home estimate, started painting their condo the next day and finished on time, ahead of a showing to a potential buyer. That 2021 customer wrote that Heather, the office rep, provided ongoing communication about the status of the job. A 2020 customer said they concentrated on the repair rather than upselling a bigger solution. A 2017 customer said the company cleaned growth off a roof, fixed missing shingles, installed zinc flashing, removed tree branches and fixed some toilets. A 2016 customer described a 900 sf wraparound porch floor refinished from old paint to new stain. House cleaning shows up in its history too: in 2013, a customer said Heather worked around air conditioners left on the floor and unpacked boxes to clean a house that was not in good shape. A 2013 customer wrote that they moved things to clean under them and brought all of their own supplies.
Background We engaged Precision Home Care (not a registered company) James M. Wilkins and Heather L. Lindhardt of Lanesboro, MA as a contractor (HIC license expired 2023) to repair two damaged porch roofs on our rental property. A formal contract was signed with the company on July 10, and we paid $830 upfront to cover the cost of materials. Project Timeline & Issues Encountered Precision Home Care finally arrived at the property on July 22 to begin the porch repairs. However, it was too late in the day to commence any work, so the team planned to return the next day once the necessary materials had arrived. That same day, one of our tenants returned home to smoke and discovered a fire in the backyard. The tenant was extremely upset by the situation and immediately contacted us. Upon investigation, we learned from James Wilkins that they had started the fire in order to clean up brush in the backyard. It took the contractor two hours to return to the site and extinguish the flames. Conflict & Termination of Services When Precision Home Care returned to the site on July 23, the tenants expressed their discomfort and concern about coming home to a fire, which led to a conflict between the tenants and the contractor James Wilkins and Heather Lindhardt. Following this incident, Ms. Lindhardt from called to inform us that they would not be returning to complete the job. Request for Refund & Legal Action After being notified that the contractor would not return, we requested a refund of the $830 deposit for materials that had not been used to repair the porches. Ms. Lindhardt and Mr. Wilkins both refused to issue a refund. As a result, we filed a small claims case and brought them to court. The Massachusetts District Court in Pittsfield awarded us double damages in the case. We have yet to be paid.
Good skills but repeated no show. Disappointing.
Heather is an excellent and professional cleaner. She has such a positive attitude and treats Her employees fantastic.
I had a contract with this vendor to start a skim coating job on 4 rooms beginning on the 15th of October and ending the 28th of October. The job isn’t done and I cannot reach or get ahold of the contractor. When he did work it was never within the same week even though he was paid almost half of the money to do the job. I’m now blocked on his phone and his wife and partner’s as well. I’ve never had a contractor give me so many excuses as to why he couldn’t come in to work. I even paid a man that works for me as my manager there to open the doors and I was having surgery at the time all of this was happening. While I was in Rehabilatation I reached out over and over to get him there but it was futile. It’s January and the job is still not completed, I really don’t know how to deal with this besides, give it to my attorney and allow him to small claims him suing him for the distress it’s caused along with the time I have had to put off any other workers because he wouldn’t show up. I wish this company Thumbtack did a thorough check of the people they allowed to post as professionals on their site.
Don't Hire Precision Home Care!!!I would give negative stars if possible. We do not want anyone else to go thru what we had to endure. Home improvement work started Dec. 8 was supposed to take 3 weeks; 21 weeks later project still not done. Finally, changed the locks so they did not have access anymore. Electrical, Plumbing, trim work and taping, never finished. New floors never covered while work in process: gouges, scrapes and gaps in floors. Heather repeatedly lied to us stringing us along saying work would be completed and then stopped replying. Finally gave up waiting and had to hire a plumber and electrician to finish. As of today, filed a complaint with Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulations. See attached photos: Please don't hire them for any home improvement projects.
