Proforma Design/Build is a Boston general contractor built around one name reviewers keep repeating: David "Dave" Kiley, described the same way from 2014 through 2022 — on schedule, on budget, and hands-on with the design decisions. The written record runs from a 2014 Angi review through a 2022 Houzz review, and all six on file come back 5 stars. In a 2022 review, a homeowner who works with contractors across the US and Canada called an extensive Boston condo renovation "on budget to the dollar" and said the work needed almost no supervision, since Kiley made the material and design calls himself. In a 2015 review, a South End condo buyer described Kiley starting work about a week after first contact and staying in touch multiple times a day through a kitchen, flooring and staircase renovation. Earlier, in 2014, Angi reviewers covered smaller jobs — interior trim repair and a bathroom reconfiguration — with the same notes on professionalism and a fair price. This is a small, owner-led crew rather than a large outfit, so for a bigger project it's worth confirming Kiley's current timeline and how the work splits between him and his team.
David did an excellent job on our extensive renovation on our Boston Condo! He did all he promised and even more. He was exactly on schedule and finished when he said he would. David was on budget to the dollar. And most importantly his work is at a very high calibre. I do renovations and builds all over the US and Canada and deal with many contractors and David at Proforma is operating at an extremely high level. Bonus is he requires very little supervision from an owner point of view: he makes the right decisions, picks the best fit materials, and even recommends design choices that were all excellent. I would highly recommend David to anyone wanting a professional renovation/build done in the Boston area.
I cannot say enough positive things about Dave Kiley and his team at Proforma Design/Build. We hired Dave after purchasing a condo in the South End that needed some work. He immediately responded to my request and we met soon after to discuss our plans. About a week later, Dave was in our condo starting work. His team is finishing up our projects now (new kitchen, lighting, new floors, new staircase) and everything looks incredible. Dave has been incredibly responsive and we generally were in contact 1-3 times a day regarding different things. When I would change my mind or ask for something additional to be done, Dave always got it done and was incredibly gracious about all my detailed asks. I would recommend Dave and Proforma to absolutely anyone, and we fully plan on asking him to continuing to help us do work on our condo in the future. Do yourself a favor and hire Proforma Design/Build. It will be a great decision!

I worked with Dave Kiley and had an excellent experience. He was professional, prompt, and thorough. He also had great personality and gave a very fair price. I highly recommend him!
David, the owner, has been very good at helping me to evaluate and best utilize different spaces in my home. Changes we did to my bathroom are some of the most significant. Overall, he's always been very professional, on-budget, and always happy to return and resolve any issues that might have cropped up.
