Progressive Design & Construction is a Marshfield general contractor run by Rick Fontana, who reviewers describe as personally on site for additions and carpentry work. In a 2015 review, a homeowner described hiring Fontana for a small laundry-room and walk-in-closet job, then bringing him back for a 1,000-square-foot addition after being pleased with his reliability and pricing — he showed up nearly every day, kept the project on schedule, and suggested changes that cut costs. A second 2015 review calls the crew professional, responsive and high quality on a separate construction project. Not every inquiry moves that fast: in a 2016 review, a homeowner said Fontana promised an estimate within days for a smaller carpentry job, then went quiet for close to a month before declining to bid on it at all. Worth asking upfront whether there's room on the schedule before waiting on a quote. Houzz's profile lists a license number (045528) for the company that we haven't independently verified, and its self-reported scope runs from kitchen and bathroom work to whole-house renovations and custom built-ins. A solid call for an addition or a carpentry-heavy remodel where Fontana can stay hands-on; just don't be surprised if a smaller job takes longer to get a straight answer on.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Progressive Design & Construction. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.

Brought Rick in after he was referred by a coworker as doing good work and being a straight shooter for a job consisting of building a couple interior walls, a closet and some finish work. He said this would be straight forward and work that would be good for over the winter months. Rick told me he'd be in touch with an estimate. After two weeks I reached out and he told me had been busy and that he'd have it done and to me over the next three days. Another two weeks go by and I emailed him to ask about the quote and this is the response. Hi Rob, At this time I would rather not bid on this project. This project is not what I am set up for. Thank you Rick If you read his website, it is what he's set up for. If he didn't want the business he should have said something a month ago when he looked at it. That would have been fine. Or even after two weeks, if he'd been busy and didn't have time again another opportunity to say that and we move on. So I wasted a month waiting on his quote for a job which he said would take a couple days.
I hired PDC/Rick Fontana for a relatively small job to create a new laundry room and walk-in-closet, and was so pleased with the quality of his work, his reliability and his competitive pricing that I hired him for a much larger addition which he is working on now (1000 sq ft addition). Rick is excellent to work with. He keeps me informed of timelines and next steps and has kept the project on track as best he can given need for permits etc. He comes in person to our home just about every day and is very personally involved with the project. He has made very constructive suggestions to improve the construction approach, to reduce costs and to get a better result. His team are efficient and hard working. They keep the area as tidy as possible and are very considerate to minimize inconvenience to us. The quality of the work is excellent. I would highly recommend him for both smaller and large scale projects.
Rick and his team are great to work with - they are professional, responsive, and their work is beautiful and of the highest quality. I highly recommend PD&C for any kind of construction project.
