An interior designer wrote in July 2024 that finding a skilled craftsperson who is also easy to work with is a gift, and that Mike is that; she had worked with him on a custom kitchen. The same month a customer described cabinetry and a fridge panel built to match their existing kitchen exactly, and another had a medicine cabinet and storage cabinet made for a master bath to match the style and stain of the cabinets already in the room. Mike Sylvester runs a small in-house custom cabinetry and furniture shop, with a workshop in Pembroke, designing, building and installing kitchens, islands, vanities, tables and built-ins for South Shore clients. Nick works alongside him. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active. The drawing stage comes up as often as the woodwork. A June 2023 reviewer said Mike often goes through several rounds of drawings until the style and the function are right for the homeowner. A July 2026 customer worked through several iterations of a mudroom built-in until the closet held coats, laundry accessories and a vacuum without wasting space. A July 2024 customer listed a built-in dresser, a built-in bar and a kitchen update across a couple of years, and singled out the project drawings at the start of each. Furniture is part of the shop too. A May 2025 customer had a dining table built and said the quality beat anything they could find in a store or online. A January 2024 customer wrote about an armoire that is storage and a piece of furniture at once, and a 2023 customer called the custom dining-room built-in and table showstoppers. One account does not fit with the rest. In March 2025 a customer gave two stars over a bathroom vanity: it was built too short, they had to retrofit it for a sink, and they wrote that several people had not seen a vanity made the way that one was. They still said Mike is a nice guy who does good work. Set against it, a December 2024 customer had three different custom bath vanities from him along with kitchen under-counter and wall-hung units and said all of them worked out, and a February 2024 customer called their custom vanity professional work that went past their expectations. For a built-in, a piece of furniture, or cabinetry that has to match what is already in the room, this is a shop that designs and builds rather than supplies. Get the finished dimensions and the sink or appliance fit agreed in writing before the build starts, which is exactly where the one unhappy customer came unstuck.
