In Burlington, Massachusetts, Renovation and Design Company built its name on the projects that turn into all-day headaches for less careful crews: a four-season room added onto the back of a small ranch, a rotted deck rebuilt from the posts up, a slider cut into a wall with the plumbing and electrical rerouted around it. The company, run by Alexi, says it has 17 years in design-build and carpentry work. Every one of its six Houzz reviews is five stars, and the same specifics keep showing up across them. A four-month second-floor addition and family-room build finished almost to the day it was scheduled, on budget except where the homeowners chose to upgrade. A side-deck-and-slider job that also required removing an old shed and running new plumbing and electrical wrapped in about a week, with the crew showing up on time each day and leaving the site clean. A separate kitchen addition and remodel was described as meeting or exceeding expectations on the promised timeline. More than one reviewer singled out small, unbilled extras — a custom-built bookcase, an arch over a front door, a basement window fixed on the side — as the kind of detail that stuck with them. The catch is timing: every one of those reviews was posted between March 2015 and January 2018, so there's nothing on Houzz from the last several years. That doesn't erase the track record, but it's worth asking for references from recent jobs to confirm the same crew, pricing, and standards are still in place before signing anything. For a homeowner planning an addition, a deck rebuild, or a carpentry-heavy remodel who wants a small, hands-on outfit rather than a big production-line remodeler, this is the kind of shop those reviews describe — just confirm current licensing and recent availability directly before booking.

We are extremely happy with the additions and deck Alexi designed and built for us. Alexi was very easy to work with, kept our project on schedule/budget and had great ideas on how to bring our plans to life. Most of all, we were very impressed with his attention to detail and his ability to keep us sane as we lived through the construction. We highly recommend him.
Alexi and his team did a fantastic job on our Kitchen addition and remodel. The work was done on time as promised and met or exceeded our expectations. Everyone was great to work with as well. I would recommend them to anyone looking to have work done in the area.
Alexi and his team at Renovation and Design did an amazing job on both the design and construction of our home addition. We cannot say enough about them and would recommend them to everyone and anyone who even mentions a home project. We added a second floor to our small ranch, removed a fireplace and wall to open up our main living area downstairs, and added a large 4 season room to the back of our house. Our four-month-long project finished on time, just as Alexi had scheduled it out, almost to the day; and on budget except where we decided to upgrade. With every decision, Alexi spelled out all the options and even asking previous clients who had decided one way or the other to gather more information for us to make our decision (for instance adding shades to our sky lights). But the best part was the quality of their work. We continue to find small details they did in our home that delight us. For example, they custom-built shelves, a bookcase, and a large bathroom mirror for us... created some architectural detail on the exterior shingles and a beautiful arch over our front door that people literally stop us to admire... fixed an outside door and basement window that wasn't even part of our renovation. Quite simply, Alexi and his team treated our home as if it was their own -- We can pay no higher complement. Alexi was also very easy to work with, and rolled with our occasional changes, upgrades, downgrades, and indecisiveness! We've been in our renovated house for several weeks, and we still walk around with a smile, disbelieving how wonderfully Alexi brought our vision to life. We're already saving for the next project we can bring him back for. Julie & Asheen from Burlington
We can't recommend Renovation & Design enough! Not only did the job come out beautifully but Alexi and his team worked in a clean and timely manner. We were continuously updated throughout the entire project. Alexi has a great vision and was beyond helpful in planning/designing our Mudroom, half bath and new family room! We are looking forward to planning our next project with Renovation & Design!
Our house is only seven years old, but despite our maintenance efforts, our front porch and deck were in bad condition. Twice in the first five years, we had stripped, sanded, and re-stained the railings and deck boards. We also replaced boards that were warped or split. By last summer, the base of the rail posts had started to rot. We weren't willing to put in any more work to maintain them, so we decided to rebuild with PVC materials. We had recently finished our basement, and had a trying experience with the contractor, so a recommendation was much more important than price to us. We chose Alexi based heavily on the recommendation from a friend. He had built an addition for her son, and she had only glowing things to say about him and his work. Four other contractors had provided us with quotes, and as luck would have it, Alexi's was a tad cheaper than the others'. At our scheduled meeting with Alexi on March 24, he showed up promptly. He had brought material samples from different manufacturers and presented them. The next day, on March 25, he provided us with a quote for what we requested, plus quotes for cheaper alternatives. We had our hearts set on Azek, so that's what we went with. Alexi squeezed us into his schedule, with a start date of April 1. He estimated that the job would take 2-2.5 weeks. (My husband was very firm with the schedule because our previous contractor took more than six months to finish a job that he promised would be done in three.) Alexi and Tom arrived on April 1 at 8 am. Tom started removing the old front porch, and a few hours later, took delivery of the materials and the dumpster. The construction proceeded at a fast clip. The deck frame is still structurally sound, but Alexi ordered a few joists in case they uncovered a problem. They didn't, although they added reinforcement to the frame in a couple of places. In addition, they replaced the trim around the doors that led to the porch and deck with PVC. A tiny detail that would've been lost to many: Tom added trim to a post where there previously wasn't any. Tom also removed construction debris that our builder had left under the deck when the house was built. Every day, Tom showed up to work promptly. He literally worked through wind (15-20 mph) and hail (because this winter doesn't seem like it will ever end). He left his work area very clean at the end of every day. Exactly a week after work started, it was finished, and we couldn't be more satisfied with the final product. We found both Alexi and Tom very pleasant and professional. We will definitely hire Alexi for our future projects, and will recommend him to every one.
