Reservoir Home installs one thing — its own smart, heat-pump water heater — for homes around Greater Boston, and its reviews read less like typical plumbing feedback and more like early-adopter tech reviews, with customers comparing the app-connected unit to switching from a 'dumb thermostat to a Nest.' The company was founded in Boston by three co-founders (Luke Winston-Almanzar, Gabriel Parisi-Amon, and Jake Felser), and its Massachusetts plumbing license is active. The written record is short but consistent: every review on file is from 2025 or 2026, and the same installers keep coming up by name — Jose, Jack, Matt, Max — often praised for handling awkward retrofits in century-old Boston houses. In a January 2026 review, one customer described a water heater failing with water pooling and a gas smell in the basement while home alone with two young kids, and said the team got a replacement installed right away. In a December 2025 review, another customer had a post-install water-flow issue and said Reservoir came back the same day and fixed it at no charge, even though the problem wasn't caused by their system. Because the company and its product are new, there isn't yet a multi-year track record to point to, and its Angi profile — while describing it as a locally owned, licensed and insured plumbing company — carries no reviews yet. Worth asking directly about warranty terms and long-term parts and service support for the proprietary unit. This is the call for someone specifically interested in a smart, heat-pump water heater rather than a like-for-like replacement — reviewers consistently cite the app monitoring, leak detection, and, often with Mass Save rebates applied, competitive pricing against a standard heat pump unit.
Our ~8 year old "dumb" water heater finally gave up the ghost and I was shopping around when I found Reservoir. It's everything you'd expect from a re-imagined appliance for the modern world - intelligence water temp control that adapts to how you use it, leading to lower water bills. There is also a physical screen and a mobile app so you can know what is going on with the unit (available water, current temp, etc). If you went from a dumb thermostat to a Nest, this is sort of like that. It's also more than a water heater - in the "max package" you get a recirculating pump and a mixer valve that. The pump brings no-longer-hot water back from your furtherest fixture to the water heater over the cold water line - no new plumbing to install, just a valve under a sink. Before we had this, taking a shower meant waiting sometimes up to 4 minutes for the water to come to temp. Now it's typically 20 seconds or less. The mixer valve gives you "virtual" tank capacity. The output of the water heater is kept hotter and mixed with cooler water to bring it down to ~118 F. These are not unique to Reservoir, and if you already have them, maybe you don't want them -- but they are integrated with the intelligence Reservoir manages - and in the same unit! I had previously gotten a quote from a plumber a few years ago to add these features to my house, but it was going to be several thousand dollars. I also considered another competing water heat pump system. The price was about the same, but the other system didn't include the intelligence software, the mixer or pump, and it also required 3 components for the install, rather than just one. For saving money on energy and getting a complete solution, I don't think there's a better water heater on the market today. I hope they make a water softener next!
Excellent experience from the initial quote, through install, and use of the water heater. Smart features are great for having the water hot when you need it. No more waiting for the shower to heat up, or worrying about running out of hot water. Leak detection and other smart features are a plus. The current price is solid. It looks nice too. Our 50 gallon gas water heater started leaking. We looked into a like for like replacement, in-line water heater solutions, but we eventually decided to take advantage of the Mass Save discounts on a heat pump water heater. We did some research and most people suggested upsizing to an 80 gallon tank from an 50 gallon tank to make up for the time it takes a heat pump to heat the water. This seemed like a waste of space and energy to heat enough water to meet our peak demand when we had visitors. We looked at recirculation pumps as well to reduce water usage waiting for the shower to warm up, but that needed a separate plumber to install. We then came across Reservoir, a company that integrated all of the tech we were looking into. They took the best parts of heat pump water heaters (the low energy consumption), and added an in-line heater for when we had guests over, and a recirculation valve to make sure we didn't waste water. Add to that a seamless quoting and installation process; their team was professional and knowledgeable. They removed our old water heater, capped our gas lines, ran new electrical, and installed the new water heater and recirculation valve in an exceptionally professional manner. The price was comparable to other quotes we got for heat pump water heaters that didn't have similar features. We've had the water heater for about 3 months now. I wanted to wait until we've had some experience with the water heater before providing a review. The water heater has some smart features that can predict hot water needs and adjust accordingly, ensuring we have hot water when we need it while reducing energy costs and wasted water. My favorite feature so far is "warm my shower", no more waiting for the water to get hot. Leak detection is a nice additional feature, we had a couple leaks at one of our faucets and at a toilet valve that we could have addressed earlier. The app also tracks energy/water consumption which can help figure out ways to reduce your water and energy bills. It turns out that your water heater can contribute a lot to your electricity (or gas) bill. The only hiccup we had was the tank temperature was initially set too low for our liking. This was partially my fault because I rushed the install team out because I had to pick up my kid to go to the dentist. I'm sure they would have taken the time to adjust things to my preference had I given them the opportunity. Adjusting the temperature myself was easy after getting some updated instructions from the Reservoir team. Since then, the water heater has been great and I appreciate the advanced features and data tracking.
This was one of the best home improvement experiences I’ve had. From the beginning, Reservoir was transparent about pricing, warranty coverage, and exactly what to expect. There were no surprises, and every question was answered clearly before I made a decision. The installation team was professional, knowledgeable, and meticulous. It was clear they knew the product inside and out, and the quality of the work and instruction they provided reflected that. The heat pump water heater itself has exceeded expectations. It replaced a 20-year-old electric water heater and the difference was noticeable immediately. Hot water availability improved right away, even with multiple people using hot water at the same time and the app provides excellent visibility into system performance. One feature I didn’t expect is the ability to monitor my well system’s water pressure through the app. It’s a simple but useful way to keep an eye on the health of the pressure tank and well pump. Between the actually water heater, the installation, and the customer service, Reservoir delivered an outstanding experience from start to finish.
Very professional came in hardly knew they were there. Polite and informative showed me how it works and saves me money. No estimate fee walked me through the process sent me an estimate helped to get it through mass save and rebates. I will recommend Reservoir! Thank you Reservoir!
Jack and Jose are great! They were responsive to my questions and proactive with service when they saw issues. Install was completed on short notice and they stayed late to finish the job. Technology is cutting edge for a heat pump water heater and the Reservoir team continues to improve the software regularly through OTA updates, even adding Home Assistant support (beta).
