Richard Moody & Sons Construction describes itself on its website as a fourth-generation custom home builder that has built and renovated residential and commercial properties along the southern Maine and New Hampshire coast for over 65 years. Houzz shows 22 projects for the company. A 2023 customer who had a 1,100 sq. ft. house built said the build went downhill once "Josh" was in charge of it. That customer said a lot of the work had to be ripped out and redone, including an entire tile floor, the location of gas pipes and bathroom framing, and that the shower floor was installed so the water pools in a corner. The same 2023 customer said inadequate, improperly installed insulation cost them tens of thousands of dollars to fix. A 2023 customer who worked with Jason and the Moody team on a custom lakefront build said the house was completed in spec and with a lot of care. A 2022 customer said calls, texts and emails to all three brothers got no response.
I had a home built by Richard Moody & Sons and it was not a good experience. The initial meetings with Rick and Jason were great, however, "Josh" was in charge of the actual build and it went swiftly downhill from there. He was never on site and all the tradespeople voiced their frustration with his lack of communication. With me, he was constantly contradicting himself on the progress and forgetting details we had previously decided on. As a result, a lot of the work had to be ripped out and redone throughout the whole process. An entire tile floor, location of gas pipes, bathroom framing, etc. Work was also done poorly, for instance the bathroom tile looks like it was installed by a 3-year old and the shower floor was installed so incorrectly that the water doesn't drain/pools in a corner. Later, a plumber I hired noted that pipes were installed incorrectly and he couldn't understand how it passed inspection. The list of screw-ups is so long especially when you consider it's only a 1,100 sq. ft. house. The worst issue came to light later when winter hit. The insulation is inadequate and improperly installed resulting in me spending tens of thousands of dollars to fix. The heat assessment technician remarked that he had never seen such a leaky house that was a new build. This is a year round home in Maine. It is stressful and depressing to wonder what other hidden problems will arise as time goes on. If "Josh" is in charge of your build; run away. (The 1 star is because they connected me to the town sewer—however, I suspect the father Richard, facilitated that).
Saw a few negative reviews - we wanted to share our experience. We worked hand in hand with Jason and the Moody team on a custom lakefront build. Quality work, excellent finish workmanship and customer service. The house was completed in spec and with a lot of care. I can’t say enough about our custom lake house we created with Moody!
Do not use this business. They do not return calls, texts or emails. Tried all 3 of the brothers and received absolutely no responses. Very frustrating and unprofessional.
My phone call to this business was very pleasant and informative. I appreciate the patience and information I received. I look forward to doing business with this company
