Royal Air Systems works out of 210 Main Street in North Reading and holds Massachusetts HVAC licence 14-SM-B, which the state registry confirms as active in the company's own name. A 2019 local-news account of founder Arthur Pickett's life says he started the company in 1980 after a career in heating and air conditioning, and a 2023 Patch report lists Kate Mahoney of Royal Air on the Reading-North Reading Chamber executive board. The customer record is unusually deep. Google publishes a 4.9-star average across 933 ratings, and 558 reviews are on file spanning 2021 to 2026, with 44 in the last six months alone. What the comments describe most often is routine maintenance done well by technicians customers know by name — Domenic, Nick, Eric, Conner, Jonathan, Tom and Cassius all recur — and the recurring compliment is that the technician explained what he found rather than simply doing it. Emergency and same-day response comes up repeatedly. A February 2026 customer who woke to 59 degrees got a same-day technician who pulled apart a 30-year-old system, traced water pooling inside a component, and had heat back within the hour, then tested exhaust temperature and CO levels before leaving. A January 2026 review described electric heat failing mid-snowstorm when no other company could come until the next day. Another customer wrote that Royal Air fitted them in on a day the AC died in extreme heat. On bigger jobs, reviewers describe being given options rather than a pitch. A July 2026 homeowner who interviewed five contractors for an attic air-conditioning replacement said Royal Air was not the cheapest but was the most informed, laid out alternatives they had not known about, and applied no pressure. An April 2026 customer had their whole HVAC system replaced with Bosch equipment after years of maintenance. A December 2025 customer said a competitor had told them their under-five-year-old heat pump was out of warranty and quoted a large sum; Royal Air found the warranty was still valid and fixed it for a fraction. Two things are worth raising before you book. A June 2026 reviewer describes a borderline low-pressure reading treated with refrigerant plus a leak-detecting dye rather than a located repair — ask what the follow-up plan is if a leak is confirmed. And in a November 2025 review a boiler call initially drew a furnace specialist; the company sent a second technician within twenty minutes, but it is worth confirming the assigned technician's specialty when you book boiler work. The one 1-star on file, from January 2025, is not about workmanship at all: a customer who had moved out of North Reading eight months earlier asked the company to stop invoicing and emailing them. Royal Air suits a North Shore homeowner who wants a licensed, long-established HVAC company with real after-hours coverage and technicians who explain their work. Confirm the quote in writing and ask which technician is assigned for specialised equipment.
“The technician was very polite and thorough with his job.”

“Having spent his career in the heating and air conditioning industry, Arthur founded Royal Air Systems, Inc. in 1980. He enjoyed working with so many dedicated employees over the years and was especially proud that he left Royal Air in very capable hands upon retirement.”

Very professional, prompt on the appointment time, excellent knowledge. Cassius is confident with the product and clearly communicates what needs to be done. He also explained how the system would work for the whole 1st floor.
Called day before to remove old mercury thermostat. Came next day . Now my central runs super efficiently and my house is very comfortable and cool.
My husband I were both extremely impressed with Royal Air Systems. We got quotes & interviewed 5 contractors for the same job - replacement of a central air conditioing unit in our attic. Royal Air was not the lest expensive, but they were far and away the most informed and professional business with whom we spoke. They not only discussed and quoted for what we thought we wanted, but provided us with many other options that were more current & cost-effective solutions that we knew nothing about - NO pressure EVER - only complete info about each alternative - pros & cons. After selecting them, they were very efficient, professional and tidy! Even after the job was done, they followed up in an amazing way - providing us with all the info that we should have saved - the paid receipt, the guratantee, a doc for comments/complaints. Incredible. I wish every company was so "buttoned-up!" I was very impressed. All the best to Royal Air for everything they have done for us! Greatful client~
This was an a/c tune up as part of the service plan. Jonathan was nice, professional, helpful and knowledgeable.
I had to cancel my appointment due to a scheduling conflict, through no fault of the company. I will leave a more helpful review when we connect next week.
