S.E. Dougherty Remodeling is a one-person remodeling business run from 49 Westminster Ave in Haverhill, with Sam Dougherty named as its manager and the person customers dealt with directly. The work spans kitchens and bathrooms, additions and second-storey builds, decks, garages, framing and finish carpentry, siding and windows — the range of a general remodeler rather than a specialist. The company says its jobs run from about $1,000 to $100,000, and that it covers Essex County towns around Haverhill along with a string of towns just over the New Hampshire line. Its customer history is good but old. Angi carries six ratings, every one of them five stars, and the newest of those written accounts dates to December 2008 — an eighteen-year-old record with nothing more recent behind it. The overall pattern in them is small, itemised jobs rather than whole-house renovations. Houzz shows five project albums and has never been reviewed, and the Better Business Bureau, which opened its file in 2017, states outright that it has too little information to issue a rating. Two things are worth raising on a first call. How long the company has been trading is stated three different ways across its own listings: Angi claims thirty-four years of experience, the Houzz description says both "over 25 years" and "over 35 years" in one sentence, and the Better Business Bureau records the business as starting in January 2013. And the construction supervisor number CS79079 that appears on Houzz is the company's own listing, not a credential anyone confirmed with the state. For a small, owner-run job around Haverhill this is a reasonable company to call, with the honest caveat that almost nothing about how it works today is on the public record. Ask for references from the last year or two, and check the supervisor licence and any home improvement contractor registration directly with Massachusetts before you sign.

Sam was great to service my needs. He was professional and patient even after Lowes screwed up in regards to the scheduling of the door replacement.

Sam Dougherty was an incredibly efficient, clean and fast professional! We are hoping to hire him again for additional house projects and have also given his name out to some of our friends for their own home improvement projects.
