One of Sam Dunford's customers had him in the sixth grade. Writing in May 2025, that reviewer said Sam and his crew have worked on the property for several years, and that after a tornado left a really big mess there, Sam took care of it. S.H. Dunford works out of Yarmouth on Cape Cod; the company says Sam founded it in 2012 after starting in landscape construction around 2010, still runs it himself, and lists Yarmouth, Chatham, Provincetown and Dennis as the towns it covers.
The work customers describe most is stone. Seven accounts are about hardscape: a new patio built where an old concrete one came out, crumbling brick front steps rebuilt in granite, a driveway redone with a granite border, a brick walkway replaced with detailed cobblestone work. In a March 2025 review, a homeowner whose backyard patio was rebuilt after a drainage problem said water stopped finding its way into the basement.
The other half of the business is dirt. Another March 2025 customer, getting a property ready for a wedding, described an overgrown area cleaned up, many truckloads of sand and dirt brought in to level it, then the whole area graded and seeded. A February 2023 reviewer listed a fall cleanup, ground leveled for a new shed and a new stone driveway across several years of hiring him; back in November 2018, a customer had a fifty-foot pine taken down and mentioned the cleanup and a reasonable price.
One detail worth knowing about how he quotes: a 2022 Angi customer wrote that Sam was patient while they worked out the scope and steered them away from adding work they did not need — which would have meant more money for him. Several reviewers mention how quickly he answers; a July 2025 customer said he responds immediately to any contact, and a March 2025 customer said text and email worked well throughout.
For a patio, granite steps, a stone driveway, or a yard that needs clearing, leveling and grading before anything else can happen, this is a straightforward call — a small owner-run crew whose customers keep hiring him back. Check your town first, since the company names Yarmouth, Chatham, Provincetown and Dennis, and pin down scope and timeframe at the estimate the way the March 2025 customers describe. Septic installs and retaining walls sit on the Angi and HomeAdvisor service lists too, so ask about those directly if that is the job.
