Scott Roofing has been putting roofs on Massachusetts buildings since 1971, by its own account, and 117 permitted projects sit against the company's name — all run out of a single Dracut address by owner Christopher Streames. The work spans both ends of the trade: asphalt and steel shingles on houses, EPDM rubber and fluid-applied membranes on commercial buildings, plus vinyl siding, gutters and skylights. Its stated territory runs from Lowell and Lawrence up over the state line into Nashua, Pelham and Salem, New Hampshire. What customers have said, though, is almost nothing, and what exists is very old. Three reviews in total, all from 2008: two positive on repair jobs, one a single-star complaint about how the company treated the customer. BuildZoom averages those to 5 out of 5, HomeAdvisor to 3.7 — the same handful of voices, counted differently. One permitted project has landed in the past two years. Licensing is the thing to settle before signing anything. BuildZoom flags the profile with a quality alert and a score of 0 because no active license is on file: it shows a Massachusetts construction supervisor license, #CS-102348, carrying a December 2022 expiration, and a Home Improvement Contractor registration, #209727, listed as cancelled with Mass.gov Consumer Affairs. Houzz shows entirely different numbers for the same company — construction supervisor #CS-027197 and HIC #170982 — alongside a plumbers and gasfitters license, #102, that has nothing to do with roofing. None of it has been checked against the state registry, and roofing is not among the trades Massachusetts exempts from HIC registration, so a cancelled registration is a real fact rather than a technicality. The insurance side is more reassuring: liability through Cincinnati Insurance up to $2 million and workers' compensation through Technology Insurance at $1 million, as the company reports them. HomeAdvisor also lists Spanish spoken and emergency calls taken. If you're weighing a commercial flat roof or a metal system, the depth of permitted work here is real and the trade breadth is unusual for a shop this size. Ask for a current Home Improvement Contractor registration number and a certificate of insurance before anyone gets on your roof, and go in knowing that almost nothing published about this company speaks to how it has worked in the last decade.

Metal Roofing Repair. Yes, I recommend this pro. Was able to diagnose a complex water damage problem then carefully detail out the necessary repairs. Timely and professional. Worked with obvious work experience.

What does a roof replacement cost in Greater Boston?

Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Scott Roofing Service, Inc. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.

A square is 100 sq ft of roof surface — bigger than the floor plan because of pitch and overhangs.

Estimated range

$9,000 – $18,600

Typical roofing project around $13,800
