The pine floors were laid in 1880 and were in bad shape. Writing this June, the owner said they now look like floors you would see in an art gallery. Another customer's scratched maple floors came back to life this spring; in 2024, someone's 172-year-old boards were made respectable again, and another house's floors, untouched for 70 years, came out looking new.
ScreenCoat is Mike Giello's company, based in Beverly and covering Essex County from Amesbury and Andover down through Danvers, Gloucester and Lynn. It does two things — hardwood floors and interior painting — and has been doing them since 2012. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, and its Better Business Bureau page is an A+ with accreditation.
The floor work runs from a buff and coat that brings back a tired finish, through full sanding and staining, to new installation. In 2023 one customer had five sections of hardwood filled in where decorative walls had been removed — painstaking cutting, by their account — and another had stain colours matched across several different types of wood in an antique house, then had the barn floors done too. This April someone had new wood floors laid, new baseboards fitted and five rooms painted.
That combination is why a lot of people call. A 2021 customer chose ScreenCoat precisely because it offered both trades, and had the whole interior painted and every hardwood floor sanded and refinished. In 2024 another had all the floors, the interior paint and new basement flooring finished in a little over a week.
Speed and access come up repeatedly. In 2025 a seller needed floors done before an open house and had them finished within a week of the phone call — with a water-based varnish so the place would not smell of fumes. In 2022 another had called five companies, had two turn up and never call back, and got Mike out for an estimate the next day, while he was on vacation.
For old hardwood on the North Shore, or a floors-and-paint turnaround before you move in or list, this is a two-trade specialist with the owner on the job. Ask which finish you want — the water-based option changes both the smell and the drying time — and book early if you have a closing date to hit.

I hired Mike to paint several rooms in my rental apartment in Beverly. I'd already done a lot of renovating in the unit, but most of it still needed to be painted. Mike's quote for the whole job was very reasonable and he was able to get it done in a short period of time. He did a great job - all clean lines, no paint on the floors or other surfaces.
