SILMAC Construction is a Revere-based general contractor built on repeat business — client after client in the record describes hiring owner Joe DaSilva for a second, third, even fourth project. The company holds an active Massachusetts construction supervisor license under DaSilva's name and an active home improvement contractor registration under the business, both verified against the state registry, and its written history runs back to 2019 across Google, Angi, and Houzz. The projects that keep coming up are full gut renovations — bathrooms most of all, but also a kitchen rebuilt with a powder room and addition, finished basements, decks, and an attic converted to livable third-floor space. A recurring thread across dozens of reviews is Joe's own hands-on communication: homeowners describe him staying responsive through old-house surprises, walking them through change orders, and following up after the job is done. In a 2023 review, one repeat client called him her "go to person for all house projects" after a bathroom, a laundry room, and a new deck; in a 2024 review, another described SILMAC turning a Somerville fixer-upper's kitchen and 1.5 baths into a finished renovation, calling out where to spend for maximum value. Angi currently shows a 4.9★ average from 165 ratings, and Google shows 15 ratings averaging 5★. The record isn't spotless. In a 2022 Houzz review, a homeowner described a major basement project that ran long, ended with finishing touches left undone, and surfaced three separate problems after completion — real, specific issues, not a vague complaint. In a 2023 Angi review, a deck project ran into a subcontractor's mistakes that caused delays and needed a fix afterward, though the reviewer still called the finished deck beautiful and within budget. Both are worth asking about directly. Before hiring, ask how they structure a quote — reviewers over the years have described SILMAC pricing labor separately from materials, which worked well for people who wanted to pick their own fixtures but is worth confirming ahead of a large project. For a homeowner planning a full room renovation who wants one person managing the whole job, this is a contractor with a long, mostly enthusiastic paper trail behind it.
SILMAC construction recently added a custom door and set of windows to my garage. The work was very good and I highly recommend them as a personal contractor. The job only took a few days to they did an excellent job.
Joe and his team did an incredible job, the work was excellent and I appreciated the workmanship and the creative trouble-shooting (it's an old house!) to get excellent results. Everyone on his team was great: skilled, hard-working, friendly, and kind/respectful. Pricing was very reasonable and allowed me to upgrade items like appliances without sacrificing the scope of the remodel, quality, or workmanship. My house is transformed and I could not be happier with the results.
I’ve worked with SILMAC on several renovations and called again for refinishing a floor and replacing a stairway. As always, I made the right choice! The price was reasonable and the timeline fit my needs. Although I was out of the state much of the time, Joe coordinated seamlessly and got the work done in a timely manner. The final product looks amazing!! I would highly recommend SILMAC and definitely hire them again.
SILMAC recently added new windows and a custom door to my garage. The windows needed reinforced framing which required mortar and wooden framing. Excellent work and the job was completed within a few days. I highly recommend their work. They painted the trim very good to provide a professional look.
This is the 4th time I have hired SILMAC for a project, and this was the largest job by far - a full gut renovation of my kitchen, adding a powder room, and putting on an addition with a laundry/mudroom. I’m so pleased with how everything turned out - it is truly the space I had dreamed about when I bought the house! Joe and his crew are extremely reliable and responsive. It’s inevitable that bumps in the road will arise during a large renovation like this, especially in an old house, but Joe was proactive in addressing them and always kept me informed. His level of service truly stands out! It doesn’t surprise me that he has over 200 reviews and nearly a 5 star rating - he is that good! You will not be disappointed hiring SILMAC for your next project.
