Sluggers Home Improvement is a Malden general contractor built around full bathroom and kitchen gut renovations — the kind of job where walls come down and everything from wiring to tile gets redone. On Houzz, the company describes itself as family-owned and says it has been at this since 2008, working under an owner reviewers consistently call Mark. The written record backs that up in detail, though it is an older one. A 2017 Houzz review described Marks crew gutting, insulating, rewiring and replumbing a bathroom before plastering, tiling and finishing the carpentry — work the customer called honest and free of shortcuts. Around the same time, other Houzz reviewers described full kitchen-and-bathroom jobs and praised clear communication throughout. Earlier accounts on Angi and HomeAdvisor, dated 2015 to 2016, tell a similar story: a same-day quote delivered by email, a fixer-upper turned into a home with floors people compliment often, and one reviewer who called the crews site cleanup phenomenal, singling out how carefully they protected areas they were not working in. What is worth knowing before calling: none of that written record is recent — the newest review on file dates to March 2017, so there is nothing here to confirm who is on the crew or how the company operates today. The sources also do not agree on how long Sluggers has been around: Houzz says founded 2008, its Better Business Bureau filing shows a January 2017 start, and Angi, HomeAdvisor and Porch separately put self-reported experience anywhere from 17 to 20 years — worth asking about directly. The BBB page itself lists the business as Not Rated, citing insufficient information, with no accreditation and no complaints on file either way. Porchs own aggregate, 4.5 stars from 17 ratings, also runs a bit below the perfect 5.0 shown on the other three directories, though it prints no review text to explain the gap. Houzz also lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration number, CS109409, for the company — that is the directorys own claim, not something verified against the state registry. For a homeowner planning a full bathroom or kitchen renovation in the Greater Boston area, the older reviews paint a consistent picture of a hands-on, communicative crew. Given the age of that record, it is worth asking for recent references and confirming the current license and insurance before booking.
As a subcontractor/team member of Sluggers I've seen first hand the time, dedication and quality that Mark and his crew put into every job! The crew takes properties that are extremely distressed in most cases and brings them back to life, all done on time and in budget. I have business relationships with quite a few builders and these guys are definitely some of the best!
Amazing company, Sluggers is consistently understanding of what I want as a costumer and always does amazing work. They have remodeled numerous apartments for me, all better than I expected for a sufficient cost. They do great work with great people, I wouldn't call anybody else.
Mark and his team are doing my kitchen and bathroom over right now. They're not even done yet but I'm completely satisfied already. They keep a clean work space, and pay attention to the small details of their work, which makes me very happy. I'm also very impressed with the way Mark keeps me informed on every aspect of the job while it's going on. I really feel like I work with them. I guess that's why the slogan for Sluggers is "we're always on you team". I'm glad I went with a smaller company because they concentrate on my project with more insight, and they actually have time for my questions and request. All in all I'm really impressed with this company and highly recommend them. Oh yeah one last thing Lourdes the office manager has really good taste she helped me pick the tile, cabinets, plumbing fixtures and paint. Like I said they're not even done doing the finishing touches and both my kitchen and bathroom are beautiful. Money well spent!
I hired Mark to redo a bathroom and I was very impressed. Even my picky and skeptical wife was pleased. Mark is both extremely honest and communicative and is also a great craftsman. His price was very competitive and his teams work of gutting insulating rewiring and replacing plumbing and then plastering tiling and finished carpentry came out beautiful. I felt like they did things the right way and did not take short cuts. But at the same time finished within his estimated time frame. I am hoping to get the sluggers team when we eventually do our kitchen.
Sluggers has been very easy and clear to work with. Most companies will work for themselves but Sluggers not only saw my vision but they helped enhanced it. Theu have made me look at home improvement services in a whole diffrent light.
