T.J. Sillari Inc. is a Somerville plumbing, heating, and gas contractor that says on its own site it has served Greater Boston since 1985; its Massachusetts plumbing license is verified active with the state. The seven reviews on file since 2021 run split — four five-star, three one-star — and worth reading both sides. The positive accounts describe careful, capable work on hard jobs. In a 2022 review, a customer described a difficult copper solder-joint leak in a nearly inaccessible space; the crew soldered a new joint without scorching the surrounding wood, then heat-cycled the boiler to confirm the fix held rather than taking a shortcut. In a 2021 review, a first-time customer said the team found the actual root cause of a steam boiler problem rather than just treating the symptom. This spring, a reviewer called about a leaking water heater at 10 a.m. and had a new one installed by 2 p.m. the same day, adding that the company has handled their faucets, showers, and toilets for years. The concerning account is specific. In a 2023 review, a customer described being quoted $350 to replace washing-machine valves after a Home Depot install ran into rusted fittings — then, once the crew arrived, being told the price had jumped to $750, with the crew citing valve unavailability and proposing to cut into the drywall. Two other one-star reviews, from 2022 and January 2026, are brief — a missed return call and an unspecified complaint — without further detail. The BBB lists the company at 68 years in business, which doesn't square with the 1985 founding date on its own website; that gap is worth asking about directly. Given the split record, it's worth getting a firm, written price before work begins rather than relying on a phone quote.
We noticed the water heater was leaking and called Sillari at 10 am. By 2 pm Mike was here installing the new one. They've been fixing our faucets, showers, and toilets for several years. Always great, friendly service. We highly recommend them.
No answer bad
The Home Depot team couldn't set up our new washer/dryer because the valves were rusted. I tried to find a plumber and contacted TJ Sillari's crew. They initially quoted $350 to replace the washing machine valves. Seemed a bit steep, but since there was a small leak, I had to shut off the water mains and I just needed it done. However, when they arrived, they muttered about things not being as they expected, and suddenly the new price skyrocketed to $750! They argued that the valves I had weren't available anymore, insisting on cutting into the drywall, tinkering with the pipes, and doing unnecessary work. Something didn't feel right, so I declined their offer. Instead, I went to Home Depot, bought two new valves for just $30 in total, and decided to try installing them myself. Surprisingly, it wasn't too challenging, even for someone like me without any plumbing experience. I'm not sure if they were after extra holiday cash and thought they could pull a fast one on me, or if there's some other reason behind it, but be cautious...
Mario and his team went above and beyond for to connect my new washer/dryer. Highly recommend!
No return phone call for an appt. Moving on.
