Elge Plumbing & Heating Co runs out of Somerville, though records disagree on how far back it goes — BBB traces the business to 1896, while D&B and incorporation filings tie it to 1973. Either way, it's been a family operation since the early 1970s, with the Iannuzzi family, now David and Maria Iannuzzi, running it. On Google it holds a 4.2-star average across 20 ratings. One of the more recent reviews singles out a specific plumber, Niall, calling him "worth the wait" for an institutional client that only wants him for service calls — the kind of by-name request that shows up more than once across its history with nursing-facility and other commercial accounts. Its BBB profile backs that up with an A+ grade and accreditation held since 2011. The trade mix lines up with the name: BuildZoom lists an active plumbing corporation and refrigeration contractor license, scoring the company a 94, and independent directories tag it as a heating contractor as well as a plumber. Drain and clog clearing come up specifically in its reviews. A couple of things are worth checking before booking. Some sources list its base as the Somerville storefront on Summer Street, while BBB and LinkedIn put the headquarters in Burlington — worth confirming which office you'd actually be dealing with. The Google average, while solidly positive, isn't a perfect record, so it's fair to ask what a less-than-glowing review tends to be about. For plumbing or heating work in the Somerville area, this reads as a long-running, licensed, BBB-accredited shop that customers come back to and ask for by name — just pin down which location is handling the job.

Niall services us in the north FL region and his performance is fantastic ! Along with his great communication and determination with his skills, he makes the perfect contractor for our facility. I can't express how much help and knowledge he's given to us. Highly recommend this company !

I am the maintenance director for a nursing home and we get clogged pipes somewhat frequently as you can imagine. These guys are great at clearing your lines. They are professional and they don't give up and they actually clean up after. Very happy with their service

I recently hired Elge Plumbing & Heating to address an issue with my rooftop AC unit, and unfortunately, I left the experience very disappointed.

The first visit involved two technicians who spent time diagnosing the issue and performing basic maintenance—filters and a belt were replaced. Despite this, the AC still didn’t work properly the next day. They had to return to re-diagnose the problem, which should have been identified during the initial visit. It turned out to be a capacitor issue that was only addressed on the second trip.

I was then billed $1,689.69, which is outrageous for what ultimately amounted to replacing a capacitor and doing a basic tune-up. $1,440 of that was just for labor—despite the return visit being necessary due to their own incomplete or inaccurate diagnosis the first time.

While the unit is working now, I do not feel the service warranted the price charged. The experience left me feeling overcharged and underwhelmed, and I will not be using or recommending Elge again in the future.
