The Carpet Workroom has run showrooms in Newton and Stoughton since 1996, and the company describes itself as still family-owned three decades later — the Better Business Bureau backs that up with hard numbers, listing 32 years in business and an A+ grade, though the shop isn't a BBB-accredited business. The reviews carrying the most weight come from repeat trade clients rather than one-off homeowners. A designer who has worked with the shop "since Peter Lovetere opened it years ago" credits staffer John McNeice with being responsive on ongoing projects, and another October 2025 review — also from a designer, praising a staircase job done for a client — calls the process organized and clear. Homeowners describe custom area rugs and a stair-and-hallway runner installed in summer 2024, and a new runner in October 2025 that went in "neat, quick" with results they called great. In a 2023 review, one customer noted the shop donated carpet remnants to an elementary school in Roxbury. The one real complaint worth flagging: an August 2025 review describes weeks spent just trying to get a quote, with the customer having to call and ask for someone else before finally hearing back from a staffer named Maggie. That kind of front-office slowdown is worth asking about directly before committing to a custom order. Worth noting: a Google reviewer credits Peter Lovetere as the founder, while the company's BBB profile names Matthew Lovetere as Founder/CEO — the two records don't agree on who started the business. For a custom rug, stair runner, or carpet installation project — especially one routed through a designer — the pattern here is solid craftsmanship and responsive staff once you're in the door. Just push for a firm quote timeline up front.

The carpet workroom did an amazing job on my client's staircase. The whole process was extremely professional, organized, and clear. Can't recommend them enough!
I have worked with the Carpet Workroom since Peter Lovetere opened it years ago. Their dedication to excellence and craftsmanship is amazing. As a designer they listen to my needs and vision and make it a reality. I work with John McNeice who is very responsive and helpful when I am making design decisions . I highly recommend The Carpet Workroom !
We love our new runner! The install was super smooth and the crew did an awesome job — neat, quick, and it looks amazing. 10/10 would definitely recommend!
We spent weeks just trying to get a quote. I even had to call to speak to someone else to get a response from Maggie. Waste of over a month due to the poor communication on their end.
I highly recommend them!!! Shop local!!! Excellent customer service, thanks Chris!!!
