A recent commenter on r/RhodeIsland who got three quotes recommended Kevin and said they got the rebates. Total Comfort Heating & Cooling describes itself on its BBB page as offering HVAC services in Massachusetts and Rhode Island; the BBB grades it A+, and on Google it holds 3.3 stars from 13 ratings. A 2023 customer had a new boiler and a heat pump hot water heater installed and said Kevin explained the options for the house. In 2023, that customer said the installation was delayed by parts availability from the distributor, Kevin stayed in communication, and the job was completed in one day on the rescheduled date and thoroughly cleaned up after. A 2023 customer who switched from oil heat to mini-split heat pumps said Kevin explained everything, gave a quote better than most they got, and that the job was quick and well cleaned up. A 2023 customer who had a mini-split system and a gas boiler/water heater installed said they spent around $2,000 to get the resulting issues fixed, including serious boiler issues and water damage from improperly installed and insulated mini-split lines, and that Kevin dismissed the problems and refused to correct them. A 2025 customer who had a Mitsubishi heat pump and heat pump water heater installed said they had to handle the communication with CleanHeat RI themselves to get the rebate approved, and had to ask Kevin numerous times before he bolted the heat pump down to its pad. That 2025 customer also said a pest control company later found nothing had been put in to block entry into the raceway where the heat pump pipes and wires entered the house, though the 2025 review called the price for the system very competitive. A 2025 customer said Kevin had installed their air handler about six years earlier, but when a leak developed he came out in the fall to inspect it, said he had ordered the part, and then never replied to phone calls, emails or texts; that customer hired another company to fix it.
“I got 3 quotes. Kevin was the best and I got the rebates.”
Kevin did a great job installing my air handler about six years ago, and I was initially very happy with his work. However, when a leak developed, things took a turn. He came out in the fall to inspect it and mentioned he’d ordered the necessary part—but after that, he became completely unresponsive. Despite multiple attempts to reach him by phone, email, and text, I never received a reply. Eventually, I had to give up and hire another company, who came promptly and resolved the issue without any hassle.
I had a Mitsubishi heat pump & heat pump water heater installed last year by Kevin. I had issues with getting my CleanHeat RI heat pump rebate approved because even though his company was listed as an approved installer on the RI Energy approved contractor list there was some paperwork or licensing that had to be updated before I could be approved. I handled all the communication between CleanHeat RI and Total Comfort when I felt it really should have been Kevin handling it but I did finally get my rebate. Kevin gave me a very competitive price for the system so I would have given 4 stars if I didn’t have to ask him numerous times to come by to bolt down the heat pump to the pad, he finally did this but I felt that was something I shouldn’t have had to request & should have been done during the installation. Lastly I had a pest control company do an inspection because I was hearing critters in my attic. They informed me that my house is sealed very well except for the areas that the heat pump pipes/wires entered my house. He literally didn’t put anything to block entry into the raceway to my attic or basement making a nice mouse highway straight into my house (the exterior photos show the raceway now blocked by the pest company with rodent mesh, the interior photo was before it was blocked). Luckily, knock on wood & fingers crossed, I have not had other issues with the quality of the installation or the heat pump itself like some other people have noted in the reviews.
Total Comfort just completed installation of a new boiler and Heat Pump Hot Water Heater at my house. Kevin explained the various options for my house and what he would install if it was his own house he genuinely cares. Installation was delayed due to availability of parts from the distributor (no surprise there supply chain issue) Kevin was in communication thru the whole process and assured me that it would be completed on the rescheduled date which it was. Kevin completed the job in one day and thoroughly cleaned up after, he arranged for a company to dispose of the old boiler which they picked up in less than 48 hours after he was done. The quality of work was 5 stars Kevin is a master of his craft. Don’t hesitate to use Total Comfort for your HVAC needs.
We had Total Comfort (owned and operated by Kevin Andrade) install a mini-split system and gas boiler/water heater in our home a little over a year ago. Since his installation, we have had to spend around $2,000 and countless hours of time to get the numerous issues fixed that resulted from his very shoddy and neglectful work, which he dismissed and refused to acknowledge and correct. Some of these were serious issues with the boiler that were potentially house damaging and water damage from improperly installed and insulated mini-split lines. Poor communication and uncaring attitude throughout the entire process from beginning (starting after he received the deposit) to end. I have a work colleague who had her mini-split system installed by him and he would not go back to fix her issues either (and also damaged her property during installation), and she has heard of others who have had similar problems. When I had my old boiler removed from my basement (which he was supposed to have done), the work crew all knew who he was and had very negative things to say about his work and professionalism. Very surprising that there are not more negative reviews on him (which, by the way, his website's page that supposedly contains the good reviews is a blank page). You will get nothing even close to the treatment that his website claims/shows. There are many other HVAC providers out there, and you will be better off by choosing essentially anyone but Kevin. Check other reviews I have given to show that I am not an 'impossible to please' customer but have been very happy with the other work I've had done on my house.
Thumbs up! Kevin was knowledgable, patient and explained everything so I could understand it (which is no small feat). He really went above and beyond in our switch from oil heat over to mini split heat pumps to heat our home. His quote was reasonable, better than most we got. The job was quick and well cleaned up. He advised us on how to get our home heated more efficiently with the new system and followed up when I had a (small unrelated to the work he did) issue. We had a great experience and will use Total Comfort Heating & Cooling again if/when the need arises. Thanks again, Kevin!
