Text Andrew Maxwell on a Sunday about ice dams and you hear back the same day — one customer described exactly that in February, with a price quoted off online photos of the house. That responsiveness is the through-line at Town Roofing. The Methuen shop keeps its scope narrow on purpose: roofs, and the things attached to them. Shingle replacement and repair, slate restoration, seamless gutters, chimney work, and winter snow and ice dam removal, across what the company describes as eastern Middlesex and Essex counties. The Maxwell family runs it and says roofing goes back three generations, to the 1940s. Twenty-six reviews since 2023, a 4.8 average across 27 Google ratings, and eight of them landed in the last six months with none negative. The praise tends to be specific: gutters replaced alongside an immediate response to an ice dam in March, slate tiles swapped as needed to keep an older roof going, an asphalt roof on a multi-roof property in Salem. Cleanup comes up again and again — one customer said you would never know a full roofing job had just happened. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, 207492, is active. The BBB page carries an A+ without accreditation. Two things worth raising. The single bad review is from 2023 and it is specific: a customer said a gutter repair kept leaking and that calls and emails went unanswered afterward. Nothing similar has surfaced since, but if gutters rather than the roof are your job, ask how follow-up is handled. The paperwork is also inconsistent — the three-generation story on the website sits next to a BBB profile dating the LLC to November 2021 with one employee, while Angi lists six years of experience and BuildZoom names Kristen Maxwell as owner where the BBB and every review name Andrew. BuildZoom shows only two pulled permits over three years, both marked expired. For a small, owner-run crew handling a tear-off, a slate patch, or a winter ice-dam emergency north of Boston, this is a fitting call. Get the scope in writing — especially for gutter work — and confirm registration 207492 before you sign.

I highly recommend Andrew Maxwell of Town Roofing. From the quote to the cleanup, Andrew and team were helpful, fair, timely and devoted to quality. Our property was treated with respect. When the work was finished, you would never know a full roofing job had just taken place — except for the beautiful new roof. I would recommend this company without hesitation to anyone looking for roofing work. Truly one of the best contractor experiences we’ve ever had. Five stars across the board.

What does a roof replacement cost in Greater Boston?
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Town Roofing. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
A square is 100 sq ft of roof surface — bigger than the floor plan because of pitch and overhangs.
Estimated range
$9,000 – $18,600
Typical roofing project around $13,800
