Dream Team Contracting, doing business as Northeast Chimney Specialists, is a Methuen crew that Martin Gutierrez has run for what the Better Business Bureau lists as 23 years. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active and verified, and chimney work is clearly where it's best known — caps, sweeps, repointing, and leak repair keep showing up across dozens of reviews. That chimney focus runs deep: a homeowner selling their home in May 2026 had a rain cap installed on short notice and called it fast and affordable; a 2025 review describes Martin fixing a stucco-coated chimney on an 1810 federal-style house after years of hidden water intrusion; another from 2025 describes a routine sweep where he flagged failed repair work from a prior contractor before it became a problem. Reviewers across 2025 and earlier consistently describe him as quick to respond, professional, and thorough — one longtime client, writing in 2025 about more than 15 years of projects together, says the team gets work done on time without cutting corners. The company also takes on broader home-improvement work: Angi lists additions, custom homes, decks, and roofing among its services, and reviews back that up — a garage-door addition finished in two days, a full kitchen remodel alongside chimney repointing and a new roof, and a shed and porch rebuilt after storm damage when other contractors wouldn't take the job. Google shows a 4.7★ average from 46 ratings and Angi shows 4.4★ from 188. Two things are worth asking about directly. A September 2025 review from a buyer of a house the company had worked on describes finding untreated plywood laid directly on dirt under the siding, five years after the original work, with the floor now sinking. And Angi's own page for the company describes a set of older complaints — about patio work, a deposit or permit dispute, masonry timing, trim work, a missed follow-up, and cost or scope changes — without giving the specifics. For chimney work and general home-improvement projects, the volume and consistency of recent praise is real, and the license and BBB standing back it up. Given the plywood report and the pattern of older Angi complaints, it's worth asking pointed questions about site prep and getting scope and cost changes in writing before a larger project.
I Greatly appreciate how fast Martin came out to install my chimney rain cap before we sell our home. Very quick, professional, organized AND AFFORDABLE !!! Definitely will use their services again and highly recommend them to others in the area!
Very excited about Dream Team Contracting for assisting with my mother’s chimney problem. Martin was quick to respond and resolve the situation! I was so relieved, especially after another company was unprofessional and disappointed me while my sister was sick in the hospital. Martin was very understanding and patient, and he was able to resolve the issues promptly. I was so thankful. I highly recommend Dream Team Contracting - you won’t be disappointed!
Martin and his team showed up on short notice to fix a code violation before closing on a home sale. They were efficient, reasonably priced, professional, and cleaned up beautifully. The job was to raise a granite step to the correct height.
I live in an 1810 federal style house that still had the original brick chimneys. They had been coated with stucco several years ago when leak started, but the stucco had failed and water was getting in. Martin was referred by a contractor who had worked on the house last year. He came by for an inspection and estimate within a couple of days, scrambled up onto my VERY high roof, took measurements, etc. and determined the chimneys needed to be rebuilt from the roof up. He also found a dryer vent that was clogged with lint and also needed to be sealed/flashed. Martin worked us into his schedule the next week. He and his team performed the work quickly, professionally, and thoroughly. He personally went the extra mile with cleaning out my dryer vent which was 90% clogged, even though I had had it cleaned two years ago. The potential problems from that were far worse than the water damage from the leaking chimneys, so I am very grateful to him! And he does everything with a genuine smile on his face. I highly recommend Martin and his team!
RUNNNNN away...We purchased a house this contractor had worked on before we bought it. Five years later, we're dealing with a sinking floor. When we opened up the siding, we found literal plywood laid directly on dirt. Not pressure-treated, just regular plywood that had completely rotted through with mold everywhere -so bad it could be peeled away by hand. Instead of fixing the problem, they built over it. A previously moldy porch was enclosed, and then two additional floors were added on top of a sinking, moldly compromised structure. This is negligence at its finest. Now we're forced to pay out-of-pocket to repair the entire back structure of our home because this company cut corners, "Mickey Moused" the job, and closed it up for someone else to discover later. The integrity of this company has placed my family including 2 children in unsafe living conditions. As homeowners, we put trust into professionals to build something that lasts, not something that's doomed to fail from day one. Rot like this doesn't just happen--it's the result of corners being cut, and the responsibility belongs to the person who made that choice. If they did it to me they will prob do it to you
