One customer's painter met him every night of the job just to talk through how it was going — that is a 2009 review, written when the company painted under the name JGM Painting. Today it is UB Painting & Renovations, at 322 Proctor Avenue in Revere, and its nine written accounts, all posted on Angi between 2009 and 2011, are about painting: rooms, trim, ceilings, exteriors — with carpentry and deck work listed alongside on its Angi and HomeAdvisor pages. The fullest of them, from August 2010, describes a new home where the crew stripped wallpaper and scraped and repainted ceilings that had cracked and bubbled from old calcimine, plus several rooms, trim, and small extras that came up. A May 2011 customer said the work had stood up to the weather for a couple of years, and that when more painting turned up on the roof that hadn't been in the evaluation, no extra charges followed. A November 2009 homeowner with a brick exterior needed only the trim and entryway done, and got color suggestions during the estimate. A 2009 customer running condo work said he came back to fix and repair, returned calls, and showed up for the weekly meetings. Price is where customers pushed back. A July 2011 review called the company dependable and good at the work, but expensive once the service was calculated at an hourly rate, and its Angi profile notes a couple of reviews making the same point. Settle the basis — hourly or a fixed number — before the first day. One more thing to raise: the Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration held in the company's name, #206265, is expired on the state registry. Ask where that stands, particularly for carpentry and deck jobs rather than straight painting. For interior and exterior painting where you want Ubi Barbosa himself on the job and reachable — which is what these customers describe — UB is a sensible call. Those written accounts all date to 2009–2011 and to the former name, so ask for recent jobs you can go and look at, and get the rate structure and the registration sorted before you book.
