United Better Homes describes itself on Houzz as a family owned and operated company serving New England since 2003, licensed and insured in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It lists window, door, roofing, solar and siding installation among its services, and its Houzz profile lists RI #26256 and MA HIC#161035. The Better Business Bureau gives it an A+ and lists it as accredited. It shows 5.0 stars from 18 Thumbtack ratings, 5.0 stars from three ratings each on Angi and HomeAdvisor, and 4.0 stars from four Houzz ratings. Its written reviews run from 2015 to 2024. The newest accounts are about solar and are mixed. In a July 2026 Reddit post, a homeowner said UBH did a new roof and solar work a few months earlier and that the solar system recently failed. In a July 2025 Reddit thread, a homeowner said United Better Homes screwed up everything that could be screwed up with their solar, and another said they had major issues and that the company responded only after a threat to sue. A third homeowner in that thread was really happy with the process and performance and said the company handled the permit issues with Warwick. The written reviews are older and center on windows. In a 2020 Angi review, a customer said Ed came within a few days to take measurements, scheduled the installation two weeks after ordering, and the installation took under an hour. A 2020 Thumbtack reviewer said a handyman did an awful job on earlier windows and that United Better Homes installed more, calling the windows great and more than reasonably priced. In a 2019 Thumbtack review, a customer described a porch renovation and a new deck installation and said Eddie was excellent to work with. In 2015 Houzz reviews, a homeowner had every window in a summer cottage replaced and said a problem with the glass in one window was quickly taken care of, and another said the crew replaced a double casement window and left the place spotless. In a 2024 Angi review, a customer cited good communication, good work and good value. There are older complaints too. A 2015 Houzz reviewer would not hire them again, saying the work took forever and was poor quality. A 2020 Thumbtack customer said the company cancelled an estimate an hour before the visit because it does not do the kind of work listed in the request.
“So I had UBH out for a new roof and Solar work a few month ago. Recently the solar system failed.”
“United Better Homes screwed up everything that could be screwed up with our solar. Run, don't walk, away.”
“We had major issues with United Better Homes. They were absolutely terrible to deal with and only after a threat to sue did they respond.”
“I have solar through UBH. I was actually really happy with the process and performance. The only issue we ran into was Warwick being dumb with permits but they handled 100% of it.”
Good communication, good work, and good value. I would hire again and recommend this company to others.
Excellent job. Originally hired a handy man to do 3 windows. He did an awful job. Saved up a little money and decided to do 4 more. United better homes answered the call. Great windows, great quality and more than reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
Didn’t end up getting work done by them because they don’t do the kind of work I needed. Despite that, they offered to refer me to someone who would do it and provided tips on how to save money on the job. Thanks!
They did not review the information included in my request for quotes. We exchanged multiple messages to find a time for someone to come by to provide an estimate. I provided the same information in the quote via individual messages to them, only to have them cancel an hour before they were planning to show up. The reason: they don’t do the kind of work listed in my request for quotes. Please read the information provided before wasting the time of potential clients.
The work was of superior quality and the workers were efficient, friendly, and highly skilled.
