Stone is the whole story here. W.T. LeRoyer built its reputation on dry-laid walls, granite steps, bluestone patios and cobblestone driveways, and the reviews read less like landscaping notes than like accounts of masonry — one 2016 customer summed it up as "artistry meets engineering" after a settled driveway was rebuilt with a rising strip of cobblestone pavers over several layers of fill. The company says it was established in 2005 by William LeRoyer, who learned the trade over years on Martha's Vineyard under fieldstone mason David A. Merry and started out after graduating from Merrimack College. BBB records the business start as January 2005, three employees, and 21 years in business. The work spans design through build: 3D design visualization, site prep and excavation, hardscape, plantings, drainage, lighting and irrigation, and Houzz lists typical jobs at $20,000 to $300,000 across 18 published projects and 35-plus North Shore towns, Marblehead included. What customers describe most is process, not just product. A 2019 client who had run more than ten contractors through the house over two years called this the best of them and singled out how a single imperfect detail was fixed the next day. A 2016 homeowner listed the job item by item — retaining wall to stabilize a slope, three walkways, a patio with a granite step, edging, drainage, bed prep — and noted the estimate was clearly written. Another 2016 customer described french drains, a bluestone patio and walkway, and site fieldstone reused to divert water and hide drain exits. Repeat work runs through several: a 2018 client on their second project and planning a third, a 2017 client a decade in. Two things to weigh. The written record is dated — the newest homeowner account on Houzz is from September 2019, and only 12 of the 24 reviews render before the profile's "load all" control, so half of that history is not readable. And one of the 12 is not a customer at all: it is from Ulrich Landscape Collaborative, a design firm that also appears as the credited designer on one of the featured projects. Read that one as a trade reference, not a homeowner's. Worth noting too: BBB shows an A+ grade while stating plainly that the business is not accredited, and records the entity type as a sole proprietorship even though the business trades as an LLC. The right call for a substantial stone project — a wall, a patio, a driveway, a full yard rebuild — rather than mow-and-blow maintenance. Ask for references from the last two or three seasons, since the public record thins out after 2019, and confirm registration and insurance with the state before signing.

We have worked with Will and his team on two closely related projects: (1) a paver driveway and (2) the connecting patio and landscaping. From beginning to end the process with Will and team has been exceptional. He is the rare contractor who hits the important notes: On-time, communicative, responsive, thorough, thoughtful, clean, considerate (of neighbors), and detail-oriented. Starting with his proposal, everything was very detailed and laid out in terms that could easily be understood as we were translating a landscaping plan into the proposal for work. As with all home renovation projects, real life doesn't always align to plan so Will was adaptive and creative in coming up with the best solutions to fit our needs. He gave us multiple options for material choices and layouts, explaining the cost implications of each. When they work, Will and his team are efficient and exceptionally clean (which is remarkable as they are purveyors of dirt); when the project is through you can barely tell they've been there. Finally, and most importantly, what makes Will an exceptional contractor is how he responds to feedback. Most of the work he and his team did was outstanding, and in the one instance where it wasn't perfect he was back at our house the next day to rectify the situation to ensure we were 100% satisfied. Over the last two years we have had a lot of work done in our house with over 10 contractors and subcontractors and Will is by far and away the best we have worked with. Looking forward to having him and his team back next Spring for another project. I wouldn't trust it to anyone else.

We have worked with Will and his team over the course of the past few years. His work has transformed our approx 2-acre property into a place the whole family enjoys all year. The scale of the project was substantial, but what makes Will's work so impressive isn't just the ultimate outcome of the project. It is equally how much we enjoyed working with Will and his crew. He has elevated his offering beyond simply being responsive and professional. His passion for his work, the caliber of his crew, and the care he took in bringing us along through the stages of the project made it something we could actually enjoy. It was remarkable. I would recommend Will without hesitation or qualification.

This is the 2nd project we have had done by W.T. LeRoyer Landscape & Design and we couldn't be happier with the result. We are already in the planning stages for our third. A perfect blend of professionalism and artistry. His communication was excellent from start to finish. Can't recommend him highly enough!

Will (owner) and his team were professional . They were willing to work with us to modify small details from our plans. We could not be more satisfied with WT LeRoyer. Living at the beach we needed a company that knew how to work with sandy soil. We expect to see his work last for decades. Thank you and your team.
