Walsh Brothers Builders is a Walpole outfit built for the ground-up custom home — the kind of project that starts with raw land and ends with a family still calling years later just to ask a question. The company describes itself as a three-generation family business rooted in the 1950s, run today by John Walsh, Robert Walsh, and John T. Walsh, with more than 50 years of homebuilding experience behind it; a construction-industry directory profile independently lists it as family-owned too, with a specialty in custom homes, historic renovations, and site work. It lists a service area stretching from its Walpole base through Medfield, Westwood, Wrentham, Norfolk, Norwood, Holliston, Foxborough, Sharon, Newton, Wellesley, Needham, Dover, Weston, and Natick, and a 2026 Worcester Business Journal piece names the company as the developer behind one local project. What comes through across a Google history of 30 ratings, all five stars, is how many of these clients keep coming back. One family says the Walshes built two houses for them over the last 30 years; another calls this their fourth home builder and says that, despite being the smallest of the four, they delivered the highest-quality construction and the best customer and warranty service, with photo updates sent while the family lived out of state during construction. A third traces the relationship to 1988, when the couple first met Bobby and John Walsh building a custom home in an early Walpole development. In its most recent review, from mid-2026, a family whose previous home was lost to a fire says Walsh Brothers built the replacement, with John personally working through the insurance settlement; a 2023 review describes a similar rebuild for another family's parents, finished on budget and on schedule. A Realtor who represented a buyer on one Walsh-built home described finish work down to dog silhouettes carved into the woodwork, and a 2011 build on DayLily Lane is remembered for a crew — framers, electrician, plumber, finish work — the family got to know personally rather than as outside subcontractors. The written record goes back further still: a 2014 review on the BuildZoom directory called the work excellent and on time. On paper, the company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, and its construction supervisor, John J. Walsh, holds an active Massachusetts construction supervisor license as well — both verified directly against the state registry. The Better Business Bureau lists the company at an A+, without accreditation. Worth flagging: BuildZoom separately lists an older, differently numbered general contractor/home improvement registration that it reports as inactive as of an August 2026 check — a different number from the one confirmed active here, most likely a superseded or lapsed prior registration rather than a live problem, but worth asking about directly. Its stated service area covers Walpole and about a dozen surrounding towns, and nearly everything in its record is a full custom build, a substantial addition, a spec home, or raw land development — not a small remodel job. For anyone planning a ground-up custom home or a major addition in the Walpole area, this is a builder with a long, clean local track record and clients who return generation after generation — worth a call, with confirming your town is in its service area and asking about that older BuildZoom license listing the only real housekeeping items first.
“The project is being developed by Walsh Brothers Builders of Walpole.”
John and his team built a beautiful new home for our family after we lost our previous home in a fire. The craftsmanship and finishes are of excellent quality, and the project was completed on schedule. John also went above and beyond by working with our insurance company during the settlement process, which was very helpful.
best builder
We recently moved into our new home and our experience with Walsh Brothers Builders exceeded all expectations. John is a pleasure to work with. His honesty, integrity and quality of workmanship made the project a great experience. Every step of the way, we felt that John was our partner. His philosophy was “I want you to love your home”. He guided us through the many selections required in a custom home and whatever we requested, he made it happen. He clearly loves what he does and it showed in the finished product. I highly recommend Walsh Brothers.
Walsh Bros. Built us the most beautiful home, and most importantly on schedule!
My wife Kathy, and I first met Bobby and John Walsh in 1988 when we were looking to build a custom home in one of their early developments in North Walpole. They had a good reputation for building a quality home, and being enjoyable, and reasonable to work with. The project was completed on time, on-budget, and they were very responsive for any required follow-up. The sub-contractors that they used were terrific to work with as well. Fast-forward to 2005, and we purchased a two and a half acre parcel of land on the lake in North Walpole to build our dream home. It was a very large and complicated project, but we never thought of anyone, other the Walsh Brothers to complete the project. Once again, they were terrific work with on this new project. Building a home can be very stressful, and not too many home owners go back to their first time home builder to build their second home, and not too many home owners become family friends with their builder and their family. We would highly recommend Walsh Brothers Building for your homebuilding project. Dave and Kathy Parkinson
