Matt McPartland started Wellfleet Steel Works in 1986, the company says, after welding steel for commercial fishing boats while working as an offshore fisherman. The Cape Cod shop describes itself as doing structural and architectural steelwork for architects and custom builders, boat-building and gear fabrication for the commercial fishing and aquaculture industries, and waterjet cutting, milling, machining, welding, metal finishing and crane service. A 2017 Google reviewer called Matt knowledgeable and "more than capable" and pointed to him for metal fabrication jobs anywhere on the Cape. A 2016 Google reviewer said Matt had helped them out of a jam more than once.
