The company requested cash upfront without receipts and got the impression that owner was miss appropriating funds

I had Garry from Maxtrust Property Services come provide an estimate of services. We decided we would want to set a tentative schedule based on our moving forward with a purchase of a house. He required a deposit and was paid the deposit. The purchase did not move forward as planned and I asked for my deposit back. Garry initially said he would and then didn't return the funds. He then asked for payment for his time in providing the estimate despite the fact that his card says "free estimates" right on his business card. I have spent over two months trying to work to get my deposit back and have only received half back so far. I continue to get promises of making the rest of the payment, but it doesn't happen. I reported this to the BBB and they posted a notice on their site based on non-response from the owner. Garry knew of the complaint as he asked me to remove it once he paid. This is very disappointing to know that these type of contractors are on the HomeAdvisor website. I have not had this same issue with other "Lists". I would never recommend this contractor as he does not keep his word.
