Dan's Custom Hardwood Floor is a South Shore hardwood specialist run out of a Hingham showroom, and the name customers actually deal with is Jimmy — the person who quotes, schedules, and coordinates, and who reviewers say answers texts within minutes. The company traces back to Dan, who by its own account started refinishing and installing floors in Boston and Braintree in 1988 and grew the business on word-of-mouth. The reputation is deep and consistent: 4.7 stars across 69 Google ratings, a 4.5 on Houzz, and a long run of homeowners describing the same things. They handle the tricky stuff — one recent client had three different woods in one house and wanted a layered custom stain; another had 110-year-old Southern yellow pine brought back to life; others mention a water-based Bona NaturalSeal finish, LVP installs, and hardwood laid during a kitchen renovation. The refrain across reviews is hard to miss: no dust, clean job sites, crews that show up on time, fair prices, and no surprises on the bill. Two things are worth sorting out before you call. First, the estimate process rubs some people the wrong way — one recent reviewer was frustrated that they wouldn't come out in person and expected to be hired over the phone, so ask up front how they quote a job like yours. Second, there's a stated $1,500 project minimum, which matters if your job is a single small room. The credentials back up the craft talk: NWFA certification, a Bona Certified Craftsman, and NWFACP installation and wood-floor-inspector credentials, plus Best of Houzz service awards in 2015-2017. One housekeeping note — the company says 38 years in business on its own site but 25 on its Houzz profile, so treat the exact number loosely. For a South Shore homeowner who wants old floors sanded and refinished, or new hardwood or LVP installed by a crew with a real track record and a showroom to choose stains in, this is a strong call. Confirm how the estimate works and whether your job clears the minimum, and you'll know what to expect.

Jimmy and his team were outstanding from start to finish. The quality of the work exceeded our expectations, and our refinished floors look beautiful. What really set Dan’s Custom Hardwood Flooring apart was the professionalism and communication. Jimmy was incredibly responsive throughout the entire process, took the time to answer all of our questions, and made sure we understood exactly what to expect. The crew arrived on time, kept the work area remarkably clean, and completed the project as promised. It’s rare to find a contractor who combines excellent craftsmanship with such strong customer service. We would not hesitate to hire Jimmy and his team again and highly recommend them to anyone considering hardwood floor refinishing.

Working with Dan’s Hardwood Flooring was great. Jimmy provided a competitive quote with several options and plenty of written descriptions. His crew did a great job taping off the area to help keep dust from spreading and their work met our expectations. I would highly recommend Dan’s for your hardwood project.

We had a fantastic experience with this team! Jimmy handled the quote, scheduling, and coordinating with the on-site team. He was very responsive and easy to communicate with, transparent about the cost and the limits of what can be done, and made the scheduling process super quick and flexible. The end result is incredible! Our floors had a lot of deep scratches and heavy staining from years of wear and tear. The whole floor looked dingy and dirty, and we were worried we might need to stain it darker to hide all the marks. We decided to first try refinishing with a satin-finish clear coat. The team was able to buff out all of the deep scratches and seamlessly replaced the sections that were beyond repair in a way that you can’t even tell where the patch begins. Not only did we not need to stain it, but the whole floor actually ended up noticeably lighter! Definitely the absolute best outcome. Overall I highly recommend Dan's Custom Flooring if you need your floors brought back to life!
