Woods Remodeling & Service works from 1 Perth Rd in Arlington under David Sylva, and its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, 183565, is verified active with the state in the company's own name. It presents itself as a full-service shop: remodeling and carpentry alongside plumbing, heating, electrical, tiling, plaster and masonry, for towns north and west of Boston. The work customers describe backs that range up. A December 2025 reviewer listed half a dozen years of jobs on an 1893 Queen Anne — the cellar renovated, an oil heating system pulled out and replaced with combined hot water and whole-home heat, the exterior painted, a macadam driveway relaid as herringbone brick, and the cedar fence and arbor repaired. Others in the same month describe a kitchen remodel plus hardwood floors and light fixtures over several years, an urgent frozen-pipe repair handled quickly, precise bathroom tile work, and an RO unit fitted into an awkward small sink. The dissent is about money. A March 2025 reviewer wrote "Avoid at all cost", saying the company charges a ridiculous amount and is not upfront about fees, and that neighbours had the same experience. Nothing else in the record answers that directly, and the platforms disagree about the scale of work: BuildZoom's 48 permits show a typical value near $5,500, while the Houzz profile advertises typical job costs of $70,000 to $150,000. Two more things to pin down before signing. The company says it has served Greater Boston since 1980 — 46 years — while its BBB file records the business as started in 2013 with two employees. And the 5.0 averages on Porch and Houzz rest on very little: Porch says outright that its figure is based on five online reviews restated from elsewhere, and Houzz's is a single review. For an Arlington-area homeowner wanting one licensed outfit to handle a remodel plus the plumbing and heating that comes with it, the registration is real and the described work is substantial. Get the fee structure — hourly rates, minimums, what counts as an extra — in writing before the first invoice.
“I’ve used Woods Remodeling for some plumbing jobs but they also do electrical, HVAC, etc”
We have worked with WRS to accomplish a number of important improvements & repairs to our house, a Queen Anne Victorian home built in 1893, over the past half dozen years. These have included significant exterior & interior upgrades: thoroughly renovating our cellar including removal of our prior oil heating system & replacing it with a combined hot water & whole home heating system; painting the full exterior of our home; replacing our macadam driveway with a beautiful herringbone patterned brick surface (very Bostonian); repairing & strengthening the cedar fence & arbor we have around our whole yard; installing a new induction range in our kitchen; and upgrading one of our shower systems with a completely new design. In every one of our projects we've had a detailed, personalized & attentive discussion with David & his principals to clarify exactly what we are wanting to accomplish, how & when to do it, and at what cost. We have *never* been disappointed with the timeliness, accuracy & quality of the work his teams have performed. They are neither the least or the most expensive option one can find, and are always focused on the integrity of the work they've performed. I give them an unqualified best practices & results recommendation in performing the thoughtful types of renovations & upgrades our New England homes often require.
We've worked with Woods Remodeling for several years. They have done everything from remodeling our kitchen, replacing toilets, installing lights and repairing electric issues to installing hard wood floors. They are always reliable and their work is exemplary.
Excellent experience with Wood Remodeling & Service during an urgent frozen pipe repair. They responded quickly, were extremely professional, and fixed everything efficiently with high-quality workmanship. Highly recommend!
They were able to provide outstanding tile work from start to finish! The craftsmanship was precise and the crew was efficient. The communication allowed peace of mind. My bathroom looks much better!
RO unit installation. My sink is pretty wonky to work with, but they were able to find a solution to help make the RO unit work, even in my small apartment with small sink space! Very helpful.
