Pool openings drew both praise and a detailed complaint for 21st Century Pools & Spas in 2026. The Chicopee business describes pool and hot-tub sales, installation and maintenance on its BBB profile, including water testing, liner replacement, seasonal opening and closing, and spa services. Its website names Hampden as its service area. A July customer praised Andy and his assistant for opening the pool and pointing out filter issues and missing or incorrect parts. Another July customer brought in a broken valve from an older spa; Sherman recognized it, and a replacement needed to be ordered. The customer said an emailed quote was waiting when they got home and staff replied immediately when they authorized the order. An April reviewer thanked Dan for his patience and knowledge and said the pool was working well. A June customer described a different pool-opening experience: the crew left a valve off, preventing water circulation, and did not install the pool strainer. The reviewer said the company offered no credit or resolution after being contacted, and the household identified and corrected the problems themselves. In an August 2025 review, a customer who said they had spent more than $60,000 on a hot tub, heated inground pool and accessories described installation delays and an unresolved pool-vacuum problem. They said an installation expected in August began on October 18 and finished the following spring, leaving the backyard disrupted for at least a year. They also reported that Brian, whom they identified as the owner, had promised a callback about the vacuum that had not arrived two months later. Google lists 4.3 stars from 115 ratings. The BBB gives the company an A grade, lists it as accredited and shows two complaints. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active under the registry holder name 21ST CENTURY SOLAR POOLS, INC. A June 2025 Nextdoor commenter in Granby recommended 21st Century and said their household had used it for a saltwater pool.
“Try sun splash or 21st Century. My husband delivered poo water for 30 years and used them for our salt water pool.”
I brought in a broken valve for an old spa and Sherman recognized it immediately but a replacement had to be ordered. Hence, I had to leave my contact info. There was an emailed quote awaiting when I got home and an instant reply back when I said go ahead and order it. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Amazing group of people who were super friendly and made opening my pool a breeze. Andy and his assistant here very knowledgeable pointing out issues with my filter and showing me when was wrong or missing. They will be back to close the pool this year and I'll have them reopen again next year
Very disappointed with this company’s service. The crew opened our pool but failed to turn on a valve, which prevented proper water circulation and made it seem like the pool motor was malfunctioning. They also did not install the pool strainer, another important part of the opening process. After discovering these issues, we contacted the company, but they took no responsibility and offered no credit or resolution. We ended up having to identify and correct the problems ourselves. When hiring a pool company, customers expect trained technicians who ensure the system is operating properly before leaving. Unfortunately, our experience was unprofessional, frustrating, and did not reflect the level of service we paid for.
I want to give a huge thank you to DAN!!. He was very patient and knowledgeable. My pool is working great. Thank you thank you thank you!
I purchased a hot tub and an inground heated swimming pool from 21st Century, along with all the required accessories for each. I spent well over $60k and dealt mostly with the owner of the company, Brian. The last time I spoke to him (2 months ago) he promised to call me in “a week or two” about my inoperable pool cleaning vacuum, which he told me was just out of warranty after telling me that this had happened to other purchasers of the same product for whom he had been able to get warranty coverage for from the manufacturer. This was after a month of haggling and trips back and forth to their location to drop off and pick up the machine for him to supposedly repair it. I wish I could just say that my experience was just due to a poor quality product, but in four years dealing with this establishment, I can only say I deeply regret ever having anything to do with it. Our pool installation was completely botched and my backyard was ruined for at least a year after because they started the “August installation” on October 18th, and did not finish until the following Spring. If you deal with this company, be prepared to be lied to and disrespected, to deal with helpless employees who get undermined by their employer, and to feel guilty for being so stupid and trusting of people who will make you regret every single interaction with them. I even regret the single star I have to leave here in order to leave this review.
