An architect who practiced in Boston for 40 years and worked with more than 100 general contractors wrote in October 2025 that HSO was one of the most successful collaborations of his career. HSO Contracting works the Cape from 62 Route 6A in Orleans, describing itself as a turn-key remodeling, renovation and new-construction firm; its site tells the story through owner Hans Spatzeck-Olsen, a second-generation carpenter who followed his father Soren into the trade. The jobs are mostly whole rooms and whole houses. A homeowner researching a huge job at their 250-year-old house wrote in July 2026 that HSO was consistently at the top of everyone's list, and that the crew listened to every concern, including how much the original look and feel mattered to them. A June 2026 review describes a full gut kitchen renovation with Kyle running it start to finish; an April 2026 lower-level renovation had columns removed and a steel beam installed, with HSO handling the assessment and the subcontractor scheduling. In July 2026 another customer got custom built-in bunkbeds out of them.
Schedule and budget come with dates attached. A June 2026 kitchen went from design to completion on time and on budget. Two bathrooms were finished sooner than expected and below budget, according to an August 2025 review. An October 2025 customer had plans drawn, permits pulled, and a Provincetown condo renovated and painted while they were in California, and the work finished on time. When a build hit cabinet shipping delays and flooring back orders in April 2026, that homeowner credited Hans with keeping them in the loop.
Some of the accounts come from inside the trade. The manager of Whitcomb Building & Remodeling wrote in June 2026 about collaborating with Hans across Cape Cod on everything from small renovations to large-scale custom homes and complex additions. A designer wrote in August 2025 that five years of work together covered three major renovations their studio designed plus two projects at their own house; another August 2025 reviewer put the relationship at 20 years.
One thing to settle early: projects here have a way of growing. A July 2019 reviewer's drywall repair after a burst pipe turned into windows, decks, and a bathroom and bedroom remodel. If you want the scope held, pin it down at the bid — an August 2025 customer singled out how clearly the bid and the timeline were laid out for a complete interior demo and remodel of a vacation home.
For a Cape renovation with structure in it, or an older house where the original look matters, this is a crew with a long local history and customers who come back. Its BBB page carries an A+ and lists the company as accredited. If you are running the job from off-Cape, ask about the video and text updates one owner used to make decisions remotely, and about property management, which a September 2025 customer says HSO handles for them.
